Deputy Design Manager
Location: Glasgow City Centre (initially), transitioning to Airdrie – On-site

The Monklands Replacement Project is a nationally significant scheme that will set new benchmarks in sustainability, digital delivery, and collaborative construction.
We're looking for a Deputy Design Manager with a background in building construction contracting, ideally with experience in on-site coordination, technical delivery, and working closely with design consultants and subcontractors.

In this role, you will support the delivery of a large-scale healthcare facility, working alongside seasoned construction and design professionals. You'll play a key part in coordinating technical solutions, managing design interfaces, and ensuring buildability on site.

We're looking for a Deputy Design Manager with a background in building construction contracting, ideally with experience in on-site coordination, technical delivery, and working closely with design consultants and subcontractors.
What You'll Do
In this role, you will support the delivery of a large-scale healthcare facility, working alongside seasoned construction and design professionals. You'll play a key part in coordinating technical solutions, managing design interfaces, and ensuring buildability on site.
Your Focus Will Include
- Working with consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams to develop fully coordinated, buildable design solutions.
- Reviewing and feeding back on design documentation from a construction practicality and sequencing point of view.
- Supporting consultant teams to align with project strategies, budgets, and Laing O'Rourke's integrated design and construction processes.
- Ensuring effective collaboration and issue resolution across design, construction, and supply chain interfaces (BIM/Digital Engineering tools included).
- Driving value through design optimisation, DfMA (Design for Manufacture and Assembly), and integration of offsite solutions where appropriate.
- Supporting information control, design compliance, and change management processes throughout the design lifecycle.
- A background in building construction contracting (main contractor or specialist contractor).
- First degree or equivalent in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related discipline.
- Practical understanding of design coordination, buildability, sequencing, and temporary works considerations.
- Familiarity with digital construction tools and collaborative design processes is advantageous (BIM, CDEs, etc.).
- Experience working on complex, multi-disciplinary construction projects (healthcare or large public sector a bonus).
- Buildability reviews & design coordination
- Understanding of temporary works, logistics, and sequencing
- Design compliance & change control
- DfMA knowledge or interest
- Consultant and subcontractor management
- Interdisciplinary interface resolution
- Familiarity with digital tools like BIM, Navisworks, or Revit
