Position: Depot Operations Manager @ Suttons International

The Role
Your primary responsibility will be to ensure all operations comply with Health and Safety legislation and company policies. You will be accountable for achieving the budgeted financial targets for both the Workshop and Wash Bay, expanding the customer base to grow third-party business in both areas, and driving continuous improvements in safety, quality, and financial performance
Key Accountabilities:
Safety Leadership
- Lead by example to promote a strong safety culture
- Drive safety performance improvements aligned with the safety improvement plan
- Ensure all procedures are reviewed and updated in accordance with company policy
- Ensure equipment inspections and testing comply with current legislation (e.g., LOLER)
Financial & Operational Management
- Full Profit & Loss (P&L) responsibility for the Workshop and Wash Bay
- Prepare and manage annual budgets
- Deliver performance reports for Business Performance Reviews (BPR)
Customer & Business Development
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers
- Expand the customer base and increase third-party business
- Deliver outstanding customer service and engineering excellence
Team Leadership & Development
- Conduct performance reviews with direct reports
- Hold weekly team meetings to monitor progress and provide coaching
- Manage attendance and conduct disciplinary meetings in line with company policy
- Develop a capable emergency response team for on-site and roadside incidents
Innovation & Projects
- Lead or contribute to Technical Services projects and initiatives
- Champion innovation and promote new ways of working
- Engage actively with the Workshop and Wash Bay community
Required Experience and Skills
- Proven leadership experience in a similar operational or technical environment
- Strong commercial awareness and business acumen
- Demonstrated expertise in workshop management and operations
- Solid background in project and change management
- Experience in budget creation and full P&L accountability
- Track record of successful business development initiatives
- ISOH Managing Safely certification
- Relevant engineering qualification
- In-depth knowledge of Health and Safety legislation
- Financial proficiency, including budget and cost control
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and customer service capabilities
- Experience in team development and performance management
Desired Experience and Skills
- Awareness of handling dangerous goods
- Experience in maintenance and repair of gas and liquid ISO tanks
- NEBOSH General Certificate
- Familiarity with LOLER and other applicable regulations
- Experience in emergency response planning and execution
- Strong project management skills
