We’re seeking a talented and motivated Data Engineer to join our Data Platform and Engineering team. Our aim is to deliver a robust platform that enables Machine Learning and analytics to drive indemnity savings, efficiency benefits and improved customer outcomes. We’re focused on developing our data engineering capability so that machine learning and AI solutions can be developed and deployed internally in a sustainable way within claims analytics.
You’ll have the opportunity to develop your skills in data orchestration, data governance, CI/CD and MLOps. You’ll also assist in the development of robust data pipelines, optimise data storage and retrieval, and contribute to the overall success of our data-driven initiatives.
At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least 40% of your week away from home, moving to the majority of your working week from September 2025. Away from home means either attendance at one of our office locations, visiting clients or attending industry events.

What you’ll be doing:
- Design, build and deploy data systems, pipelines, and applications and maintain current data pipelines.
- Ingest data from a variety of data sources from relational databases to unstructured data such as text documents.
- Operate in fast-paced, iterative environment while remaining compliant with Information Security policies and Data Governance practices and standards.
- Collaborate with data analysts and data scientists to prepare data for use in their advanced analytical models.
- Work closely with the business on everything including problem scoping, infrastructure provisioning, execution, deployment, maintenance to build a detailed knowledge of AXA data sources, both internal and external.
- Help us transform the existing platform and pipelines to enable us to run faster and with more, implementing activities such as more advanced orchestration (DAGs), data quality checks, catalogues, CI/CD and MLOps.
- Design re-usable code and data assets to enable team activity using Software Engineering best practices and code frameworks.
- Build market leading data engineering solutions and assist in building our cloud-based data asset to enable commercial decision making based on rich, robust data.
What you’ll bring:
- Exceptional applied experience with PySpark.
- Excellent practical experience of using Azure Data Lake and Azure Databricks.
- Experience with Python and other programming languages.
- Knowledge of CI/CD and MLOps.
- Skilled in grasping challenges for business stakeholders and looking for their solutions.
- Proven success in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe data modelling decisions and data engineering strategy.
- Ability to work across structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data, extracting information and identifying linkages across disparate data sets.
- Previous exposure to Insurance or Financial Services would be advantageous.
