Job Opportunity: Band 3 Medicines Management Assistant

Location: Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Full-time)

Rota: Monday to Friday (8:30 AM 4:30 PM / 9:30 AM 5:30 PM), with weekends and bank holidays on a rotational basis

We are delighted to offer two exciting opportunities for enthusiastic and detail-oriented individuals to join our Pharmacy team at Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust as Band 3 Medicines Management Assistants.

Our hospital pharmacy is a friendly, supportive, and fast-paced department, delivering essential services to wards and patients across Mental Health, Learning Disabilities, and Community Health settings.

About The Role

You will play a key role in supporting the safe and effective use of medicines, working within a well-established team. Responsibilities include:

  • Dispensing inpatient, outpatient, clinical trial, and controlled drug prescriptions in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Using the pharmacy computer system to generate labels, manage stock issues, and process receipts and transfers.
  • Maintaining well-organised and tidy storage areas, including putting away dispensing stock and part packs.
  • Visiting wards to order and top up medication supplies.
  • Supporting ward staff with the Trust’s electronic prescribing and medicines administration (ePMA) system.

What We’re Looking For

  • Mandatory Qualification: Pharmacy Services NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent)
  • Strong computer skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Organised, reliable, and committed to continuous learning.

Job Description Summary (Main Duties And Responsibilities)

  • Ensure all ward and departmental stock levels are maintained through weekly medication top-ups and regular stock reviews.
  • Receive, check, and store medications in line with pharmacy protocols and best practice guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised medicines environment, including tidying clinic rooms and drug cupboards.
  • Conduct daily checks for expired medications, ensuring items are clearly labelled and removed as appropriate.
  • Manage patient drawer systems to ensure accurate and accessible medication storage.
  • Remove unwanted medications from clinical areas (excluding controlled drugs).
  • Perform weekly medication audits to ensure compliance and highlight areas for improvement.
  • Reduce medicine wastage through return and credit processes where applicable.
  • Maintain and review ward stock lists to ensure alignment with clinical needs.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of a standardised layout across all clinic rooms.
  • Act as the first point of contact for pharmacy-related queries on the ward (MMA first-line support).
  • Identify and facilitate the use of patients’ own medications on the ward (with MMT authorisation).
  • Assist with the management of electronic Controlled Drug (CD) registers.
  • Co-ordinate and monitor Pharmacy iBINs to ensure timely restocking and accountability.
