Join Our Team as an Assistant Financial Accountant in Stirling

The primary purpose of this role is to support the Financial Reporting Manager by ensuring accurate and timely stock accounting, delivering high-quality reporting to the business, and contributing to the company’s adherence to tax obligations and other relevant regulatory requirements. This role plays a key part in maintaining robust financial controls and ensuring that stock-related transactions and records are managed in a compliant and efficient manner.
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Financial Accountant to join our finance team, with a primary focus on supporting the accurate management, reporting, and control of company stock and inventory, and product gross margins.
The successful candidate will play a key role in:
- Maintaining accurate stock records
- Preparing inventory reports
- Reviewing branch product margin reports
- Assisting with financial reporting
- Assisting with tax (including VAT) reporting and compliance
- Supporting the wider finance function as needed
Stock & Inventory Accounting
- Maintain accurate stock records across all company locations, ensuring timely and accurate posting of stock transactions
- Reconcile stock balances to the general ledger on a monthly basis and investigate any variances
- Support the preparation and distribution of monthly stock ageing reports to relevant managers and stakeholders
- Assist operational teams with stock queries and provide financial insight to support effective stock management
- Participate in stock counts and audits, including preparation of reconciliations and adjustments as required
Financial Reporting Support
- Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts, focusing on stock-related entries, accruals, and adjustments
- Analyse and review branch product margin reports and investigate and resolve any anomalies
- Support the production of key stock and inventory analysis reports for management
- Contribute to quarterly and year-end reporting processes by providing accurate stock information and supporting schedules
- Help with the preparation of information required for the annual audit, particularly around inventory and related balances
- Complete ad hoc reports and returns required by regulatory authorities (e.g. ONS)
- Support progress on Corporate Criminal Offence (CCO) compliance
Tax Compliance Support
- Assist with the preparation of quarterly VAT returns
- Support wider tax compliance processes including corporation tax and payroll tax returns
- Help coordinate and maintain customs duty compliance activities within the finance function
Systems & Process Improvement
- Support the ongoing development and use of the company’s ERP systems (Intact IQ, Orderwise, Business Central), particularly around stock modules and reporting functionality
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of stock and inventory accounting processes, identifying opportunities to improve accuracy and efficiency
General Finance Support
- Assist the wider finance team with reconciliations, journal postings, and other month-end tasks as required
- Provide ad hoc financial reports and analysis to support business decision-making
- Maintain good communication with internal stakeholders and external partners as required.
Core Training & Competencies
- Part-qualified accountant (ICAS, ACCA, CIMA) or studying towards qualification (desirable but not essential)
- Previous experience in a finance or accounting role, ideally with exposure to stock or inventory accounting
