Your New Role
An exciting position have arisen for an Apprentice Materials Technician to join the Engineering team at our RFD Beaufort Division in Ellesmere Port.
This team is responsible for creating everything from the initial concept to the final design of Survitec products. They develop ideas for new products and prototypes, as well as evolving the design details of established ranges. They deeply understand the safety needs of our customers.
The Apprentice Materials Technician is a key technical support role with the primary purpose to provide technician support to the technical department which will support the development of new materials and processes. You will have responsibility and accountability for support testing of products in all product sectors, relating to but not limited to new product development, technical service to customers and technical support to manufacturing.
The Apprentice Materials Technician will primarily be working with a group of fantastic engineers, who are devoted to developing, testing and equipping pilots from around the globe with cutting edge Pilot Flight Equipment (PFE) and Survival Technologies. This will include F-16V, F-35 and Typhoon Pilots.
Day to day you will test various materials and components that form part of the PFE system, ensuring compliance and qualification to aerospace and aviation industry standards is adhered to aswell as exploring the properties of materials and why they have been selected for use to withstand environmental flight conditions, and the rigours of ejection and post ejection survivability.
You will work in collaboration with the design team and senior material process engineers to determine material testing parameters in accordance with specific industry standards.
You will wite test plans and creating test cases for product qualification to meet customer requirements.
Essential Criteria
Formal qualifications, Grade C and above in Maths, English and Science
A strong and demonstrable interest in science, engineering, and technology
Ability to demonstrate basic technical engineering knowledge and skill
Ability to work using own initiative
Ability to follow instructions including technical instructions
Initiative-taking, willing to undertake the work required with the training provider and in the workplace
Able to work independently and as part of a team
Effective communication skills
Good critical thinking skills
Enthusiasm for textiles, their properties and end use application
Ability to operate and maintain test machinery and equipment
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
Attention to detail and precision in executing textile projects
Effective communication and collaboration with team members and clients
Good understanding of MS Word and Excel
