The Applications Engineer role will focus on digital product support, stability, and growth. We are embarking on a digital transformation programme to enhance our capabilities, making it an incredibly exciting time to join Linnaeus. This pivotal role will ensure our applications and systems are supported and maintained to the highest standards.
Main purpose & goals
We are looking for a talented Applications Engineer to join our Digital team and support the development and stability of our technology estate in alignment with Linnaeus’ business strategy. This role is pivotal in delivering 3rd line support across our applications and systems, with a strong focus on data platforms, integrations, and automation. The successful candidate will also play an active role in delivering technical solutions as part of wider cross-functional project teams, contributing to the evolution of our digital landscape. Hybrid working is available, with occasional travel to our head office in Shirley or other sites to support business needs.

Core Responsibilities
- Triage, troubleshoot and resolve application, data and platform issues
- Provide 3rd line support for a range of products across the business
- Configure, build, test and implement business services and application-based projects
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and deliver technical solutions
- Deliver application projects independently or as part of a cross-functional team
- Develop and maintain application integrations across systems and environments
- Implement process automation using SaaS or low-code based tools
- Document processes, procedures and best practices for platform and support processes
- Identify and implement maintenance and system optimization across application and data platforms
- Work with peers at Mars Veterinary Health to support investigations or leverage shared services
- Support and maintain Linnaeus solutions using: PowerShell, Azure Portal, Logic Apps, SQL, Azure Data Factory, Automation Tools
- Manage and support Azure Services including Event Management, Permissions & Group Management, App Registrations, Storage, Data Share & Integrations
- Troubleshoot and support COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf) applications and integrations
- Develop and maintain data integrations and transformation processes
- Create and maintain documentation on supported application services
Experience
Essential
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in a Service Desk or technical support environment
- 2+ years in 2nd or 3rd line application support, including COTS and bespoke solutions
- Hands-on experience in application development or SaaS configuration
- Proven track record of delivering technical tasks within cross-functional projects
- Practical experience using PowerShell for automation
- Experience with SQL and data integration/transformation processes
- Exposure to DevOps tools and practices e.g. CI/CD pipelines (Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment)
- Involvement in digital transformation initiatives
- Experience with other automation tools
Essential
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Azure services including Logic Apps, Data Factory and Azure Portal
- Proficiency in PowerShell scripting
- Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies
- Understanding of process automation tools and techniques
- Awareness of cybersecurity best practices
- Knowledge of additional scripting languages e.g. Python, JavaScript
- Experience with Azure Data Bricks

- Advanced Azure certifications e.g. Azure Solutions Architect
- Certifications in other cloud or data platforms
