The Vacancy
We are looking for an Advanced Research Engineer to join our Modelling and Simulation Team based in Coventry.
The Advanced Research Engineer (ARE) role is focused on the technical delivery of projects and support the development of project related activities across the MTC, working across various technology departments and industrial sectors.
In addition, this role is focused on leading a small number of colleagues in the Modelling and Simulation Department. You will be required to understand the skills of your team, their capacity and help manage their workload as well as communicating effectively with stakeholders and wider business.

Essential Skills/Qualifications/Experience
You will be a degree-calibre engineer, technologist, scientist or mathematician. Strong logical reasoning, abstraction and analytical skills. Demonstrate at least 2 years of experience in the management of others; setting and continuous review of objectives, managing and maximising performance in a constructive manner, communicating effectively, with candour and in a timely manner. In addition, displaying capability in managing the development of others; coaching and mentoring your team, supporting in personal development plans and organising training. Demonstrate at least 3 years of industrial experience leading simulation, modelling and analytical studies, including one or more of:

We are looking for an Advanced Research Engineer to join our Modelling and Simulation Team based in Coventry.

Main Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day support for the team, ensuring that it can work in an environment that aligns to the MTC standards by collaborating closely with the Department Resource and Technology Managers, contributing to the skills strategy of the team and communicating clearly as to the needs & wellbeing of your team. As such you will be required to support your team in professional development, understanding their skills and needs of the individual and those of the business. Understanding the link between skills and capability offerings and assisting development at both levels to enable success in achieving department strategies.
- Execute complex project's technical deliverables, and act as Technical Lead for smaller projects where required; ensuring work meets or exceeds agreed customer requirements, within agreed budgets and timescales.
- Undertake innovative Engineering research work focused primarily on technology/manufacturing readiness levels (TRL/MRL) 3+, and able to demonstrate industrial project delivery.
- Contribute to the identification, technical specification and delivery of new and novel technology capability into the MTC, customers, or industrial members premises. Supporting of proposal of new capability development projects that align with the Department, Technology Theme, and overall MTC strategy, and able to explore different routes for project funding (internal, industrial, or CR&D funding).
- Support senior colleagues with customer and internal partner liaison in collaborative projects, able to lead technical liaison with customers during project to ensure on time and on cost delivery
- Support colleagues and transfer knowledge in area of expertise to others in the department, and to wider MTC colleagues.
- Be involved in all aspects of the project delivery including but not restricted to: concept generation, detailed design, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards, technical support of commissioning, awareness of project budget and deliverables.
Essential Skills/Qualifications/Experience
- Discrete Event Simulation.
- Mathematical and Statistical Modelling.
- Experience of engineering problem solving driven by a customer/end user’s requirements.
- Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills are required for the role; able to demonstrate a high standard of report writing and presentation skills.
- Demonstrate ownership of career development through mentoring coaching and training courses through personal development plan.
- The candidate should have manufacturing, object-oriented programming, data analytics experience.
- Knowledge of one or more industrial sector and / or understanding of manufacturing systems and technologies.
- Knowledge in areas of sustainability or circular economy.
- Understanding of Lean and Six Sigma.
- Application of general analysis methodology (GAM) and VVUQ frameworks.
- Proven ability on project and time management.
