Role Overview
Tecna is looking for a commercially minded Head of Finance / Finance Director to take ownership of the company’s financial strategy, operations, and performance.
Within this role you will be responsible for both setting financial direction and delivering the day-to-day finance operations alongside the Finance Assistance. You’ll work closely with the CEO/MD and leadership team to drive performance, while also being comfortable rolling up your sleeves to produce the numbers.
You will build and lead a high-performing finance function, ensuring robust financial controls while acting as a strategic partner across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Hands-On Finance Ownership
Take full ownership of the finance function, from day-to-day operations through to strategic planning.
Prepare and review monthly management accounts, ensuring accuracy and insight.
Own and execute month-end and year-end close processes.
Evaluate new opportunities with a strong financial lens.
Maintain oversight of all transactional finance (AP/AR, invoicing) where needed.
Strategic Finance & Leadership
Partner with the MD and leadership team to shape business strategy and drive growth.
Lead financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
Provide clear, actionable insights on performance, risks, and opportunities.
Develop and execute the long-term financial strategy.
Financial Planning & Analysis
Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
Build and maintain financial models to support decision-making.
Provide clear, actionable insights on business performance, risks, and opportunities.
Cash Flow & Performance Management
Actively manage cash flow, working capital, and runway.
Monitor profitability, margins, and cost base across the business.
Identify and drive improvements in financial performance.
Controls, Compliance & Governance
Establish and maintain robust financial controls and processes.
Oversee statutory accounts, audits, and tax compliance.
Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and reporting standards.
Systems & Scaling
Improve finance systems, reporting, and processes.
Build scalable financial infrastructure to support growth.
Introduce automation and efficiencies where possible.
Experience
What We’re Looking For
Proven experience in a senior finance role (Head of Finance, Finance Director, or similar)
Strong track record of being hands-on and owning the numbers end-to-end.
Experience in an SME, agency, or growth-stage business.
Comfortable operating as the most senior finance person in the business.
Experience owning end-to-end finance operations.
Track record of partnering with leadership teams on strategic decisions.
Skills & Attributes
Highly hands-on, with a willingness to get into the detail.
Commercially minded with strong analytical skills.
Able to switch between strategic thinking and execution.
Strong communicator who can translate financials into business insight.
Proactive, pragmatic, and solutions focused.
High attention to detail with strong organisational skills.
ACA / ACCA / CIMA (or equivalent)
