The person appointed would be expected to:


  • To work under the day-to-day supervision of the Estates and Facilities Assistant Security.
  • To clean designated areas to an acceptable standard as instructed by the Estates and Facilities Assistant Security in line with college requirements.
  • To exercise proper use and economy with cleaning materials/equipment.
  • To only use cleaning materials provided by the College and read the relevant COSHH assessments.
  • To read and follow the College’s Health & Safety at Work Policy.
  • To read and understand the cleaners’ Risk Assessment document, recognising the hazards, and applying the control measures.
  • To inspect cleaning materials before and after use, reporting to the Estates Manager and Estates and Facilities Assistant Security immediately any faults, like damaged cables or plugs.
  • To keep cleaning materials in a clean condition and storing them when not in use in the designated room.
  • To enter in the Signing in Book, your times of arrival and departure.
  • To, collectively with your colleagues, cover the cleaning areas of absent cleaners as directed by the Estates Manager or Estates and Facilities Assistant Security.
  • Where appropriate, work additional week(s) in College holiday periods, as directed by the Estates and Facilities Assistant Security
  • To undertake any reasonable request by the Estates Manager or Estates and Facilities Assistant Security in line with your cleaning duties.
  • Each member of the College will take reasonable care for the health and safety of himself/herself and persons who may be affected by his/her omissions at work.
  • Have a flexible approach to working hours during key events e.g open evenings, enrolment days and exam periods.
  • To attend meetings and complete mandatory training in accordance with the colleges meeting/training schedule
  • To undertake any other duties as may be assigned commensurate with the grade and overall responsibility level of the post and as changing circumstances may require.

Contract and Salary Information


Closing date: 12 noon on Wednesday 8th July 2026
Start date: 1st September 2026
Contract: 14 hours per week, term time only.
Working days: Thursday and Friday 9.30am-5.00pm
Salary: £24,759 per annum (payable £7,739.83 pa)

Carmel College is a leading Catholic sixth form college located in St. Helens, Merseyside, specialising in Level 3 education. With a diverse student body of over 2,000, the college offers a comprehensive range of academic and vocational qualifications, catering for A Level and BTEC students, GCSE Maths and English Language resits, and a Level 4 Art Foundation course in partnership with the University of the Arts, London. The college also offers a wide variety of Foundation Degree courses at Level 5 in collaboration with The University of Liverpool.
