About the role
What does the average day look like?
This apprenticeship blends academic study with practical delivery across a broad range of electrical and electronic engineering disciplines, including:
- Communications and digital systems
- Signal processing and instrumentation
- Control systems and system architecture
- Prototype development, testing and validation
- Systems engineering and engineering management
- Safety critical and high reliability electronic systems
Working within the Technology Development Team, you will contribute to the design, evaluation and manufacture of systems used across the UK railway - from sensors and control equipment to advanced digital technologies.
About the team..
Electrical and electronic systems are central to the safe and efficient running of the UK rail network. As a Degree Apprentice, you'll study cutting¿edge engineering concepts while applying them in real world environments. Your work will help shape technology used across national rail infrastructure.
You'll be based in Weston¿super¿Mare, working with the Network Rail Technology Development Team (TDT) when not attending part time study at University College Weston (UCW) in partnership with the University of the West of England (UWE) Bristol.
What you'll gain

Longer term, this apprenticeship provides a strong foundation for progression into specialist, senior or leadership engineering roles across Network Rail.

Essential Criteria
- A Level BBC including Mathematics PLUS physics, physical science, engineering science, computer science, technology, or other science or technology subject.
- DMM in BTEC Extended Diploma in a science or technology-based subject (including passes in mathematics and two other science or technology-based modules).
- Merit overall from a T level qualification - this must include a B in Core and can be from any engineering specific T level.
- A combination of qualifications which must include mathematics or a mathematics-based subject and may include L3 Apprenticeship, AS levels, EPQ and general studies.
- Access to HE Diploma with at least 15 Level 3 credits at merit grade or above, in a Maths or Engineering programme including mathematics
