Our Programme Advisory team is led by experts in the set-up, transition and transformation of major programmes and organisations both in the UK and globally, with a market leading client base across the public and private sectors. We provide diverse advisory services to our clients including Strategy, Transformation and Change, Organisation Design & Effectiveness, Commercial Strategy, Programme Management Advisory, Business Case & Funding, Regulatory Advisory and Controls & Performance.   

Turner & Townsend in Defence:

Defence is the fastest growing sector within Turner & Townsend.  We are a relatively new supplier into the sector but are already established as a Key Supplier into MOD as a top 5 (by revenue) professional services supplier.  We have one of the most comprehensive routes to market into Defence by being a key partner or prime into 3 of the MOD’s largest delivery and transformation partnership arrangements.  We are now involved with some of the highest profile consultancy engagements in the sector and our building reputation has created an enviable demand. 

Job Description:

Programme Advisory requires a leader to lead our major client engagements as well as drive continued growth of Programme Advisory services into the sector.  The successful candidate will be a member of the Programme Advisory UK Leadership Team and will influence Turner & Townsend’s strategic direction into the sector overall, with a focus on our Programme Advisory proposition.   

The successful candidate will be identifying and securing opportunities within our existing and targeted client base, leading in the sales and delivery of Programme Advisory work in this targeted sector. The role will be a National UK role with the expectation to meet clients nationally.



  • Graduate calibre with previous experience in consultancy sales and delivery within the UK Defence sector.
  • Skilled in client handling, relationship management, sales, solution / proposition development.
  • Skilled in shaping, mobilising and leading consultancy projects.
  • Proven experience across some or all of our major service disciplines, including:
    • Major project / programme setup and management.
    • Strategy and transformational change.
    • Organisation design and effectiveness.
    • Commercial & procurement leadership.
  • Effective communication and relationship building skills able to work and thrive in a multi stakeholder environment.
  • A natural gravitas in dealings with clients, with a ‘making the difference’ approach.
  • Proven experience in preparing, defining and delivering bid proposals.

Key requirements of the role:

  • To grow the Programme Advisory Defence business in the UK, increasing market share and influence in the sector.
  • Identify, sell, mobilise and lead delivery of consultancy engagements.
  • To be an inspirational leader and strategic thinker that can help shape our clients’ agendas relating to their organisations and early in the lifecycle of their programmes.
  • Ability to guide and lead internal teams, offering a strong point of focus for the business.
  • Ability to grow strong relationships with clients and cross-functional team members. The job requires the holder to build trust with clients, industry partners and colleagues, and maintain their “One Business” ethos.
  • Provide clear leadership on behalf of clients, translating into trust and confidence in the organisation’s ability to deliver.
  • To build the best team so that they can be the best in the market. This may include identifying potential acquisitions and key talent.
  • Effectively manage risks and maximize commercial returns, applying business acumen.
