The Data Quality Specialist as part of the Marketing Data Governance, Assessment, Management and Education (DGAME) will play a pivotal role in building an effective Data Quality Management capability across Anglo American Marketing, ensuring that data quality is at the heart of critical business processes & reports. This role will take ownership of defining the relevant DQ processes and practices, and work cross-function to gather data quality requirements and oversee implementation in the Strategic Data Quality Tool (Collibra DQ)towards elevating the standard of DQ as part of continuous improvement. As a key member of our DGAME team, the role is  responsible for ensuring data quality and its effective measurement & remediation, while promoting a culture of data-driven decision-making.

Join us as a Data Quality Management Specialist, where you will build Data Quality Management Capabilities within the business, which enable timely insights into data issues. This will shift accountability for the data reliability on the business stakeholders and transform the stakeholder mindset to treat data as a valuable enterprise asset.

Key Responsibilities include:

Performance & Delivery

  • Standardise Data profiling & quality assessment activities across the Business
  • Work with Business Data Sponsor (Head of Data) to Develop Data Quality standards and processes as appropriate
  • Assist Business Data Sponsor (Head of Data) to Establish and enforce data quality policies and procedures
  • Work with Business Data Sponsor (Head of Data) for prioritisation of features and roadmap for the DQ exception reporting tool (Collibra DQ)
  • Work with Business Data Sponsor (Head of Data) for the annual planning of tactical priorities on DQ Tool and the Data Quality Log and communicating regular progress updates on execution to the Head of Data (DGAME)
  • Responsible for design and execution of the processes for identification, recording and remediation of data quality issues
  • Work with the Data Owners and Stewards to identify and facilitate the production of Data Quality dashboards for timely and active remediation
  • Develop and maintain data quality metrics and KPIs
  • Responsible for optimising the processes that proactively uncover data quality issues within Marketing

People/Teams/Stakeholder Management

  • Manage relationships with business users, technical development team and the tool provider
  • Work with Business and Technical stakeholders to identify data quality needs and drive work to address data quality concerns
  • Provide training and support to teams on data quality best practices including creation of new DQ rules across Collibra Data Catalogue and Quality applications.


Preferred skills & experience:

  • Good tactical understanding of data quality and governance
  • Experience of using or implementing Collibra Data Quality tool
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of SQL, Python for tactical data analysis & profiling using DQ Tool and Jupyter Notebook
  • Familiarity with data cataloguing and metadata management
  • Capable of effectively managing upwards by proactively communicating status updates and maintaining consistent progress without day to day supervision
  • Analytical Capability/Analytical skills:

    • Root Cause Analysis
    • Qualitative & Quantitative Analysis
    • Issues & Risks Identification & Mitigation
  • Superior interpersonal skills both oral and written, especially with respect to technical content
  • Relationship Management and Stakeholder Management - Pro-active & responsive
  • Experienced in working directly with technical and non-technical professionals
  • Experience of working in Data Management functions for Commodities Trading or Oil & Gas space is useful
