Are you interested in teaching clinical skills to healthcare students?

Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Skills Tutor at the University of Plymouth, Peninsula Medical School (PMS), Clinical Skills Resource Centre (CSRC).

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a progressive and cutting-edge University in a beautiful location, where you can really make a difference. CSRC is currently seeking to appoint a highly motivated, well organized individual to take up the post of Clinical Skills Tutor.  The role would suit registered health professionals who have a passion for teaching and learning, where education already plays a significant role in their work.

PMS is widely regarded as one of the strongest medical schools in the UK.  The School is undergoing expansion and has teaching sites across three localities in the south-west.  CSRC supports the undergraduate Medicine, Dentistry, Dental Therapy/Hygiene, Diagnostic Radiography and Biomedical Sciences programmes and the postgraduate Physican Associate programme.

The undergraduate programmes provide innovative, integrated, spiral curricula with one of the highest ranked level of student satisfaction in the sector.  You will help implement the delivery and assessment of the clinical skills component of each of the programmes currently offered by the School. These have been developed to include low- to medium-fidelity medical simulation and also involves working with simulated patients and model patients.

You will work under the supervision of the Senior Clinical Skills Tutor / Deputy Lead and join a motivated multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals committed to providing high quality learning experiences for all students.  The role will include preparation and delivery of clinically related teaching and assessments, and some curriculum development.

You should have current clinical experience and registration with a health-related professional body (e.g. NMC, HCPC, GMC, etc).  You must have a broad range of clinical experience and possess good communication and presentation skills.  A postgraduate teaching qualification would be an advantage to the post, although not essential.  Depending upon previous experience you may be required to undertake some initial training.

The post will be based at the Clinical Skills Resource Centre, John Bull Building, Plymouth Science Park, Derriford.  This is a purpose-built teaching and simulation environment.  As part of ongoing expansion the medical programme is now delivered across multiple sites, including Taunton and Torbay, and travel between sites may be required periodically.

This is a 0.6 FTE part-time position working three 7.4 hour days per week on a permanent basis.  The preferred working days would be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, but some flexibility can be offered.

Please demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria outlined in the knowledge, qualifications, training and experience elements of the job description in your supporting statement.

For an informal discussion to find out more about the role then please contact Andrew Brown by email at ************@plymouth.ac.uk  in the first instance.

This role will require an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check plus a Children’s Barred List and Adults Barred List check.

Interviews are expected to take place on 21st May and you will be notified if you have been shortlisted.
