The Opportunity:










Avantor is looking for a Late Shift Production Supervisor to join our Hichrom team in Reading!



In this position you support the Laboratory as part of a team of supervisors, working closely with the Lab Production Manager. You will have the opportunity to be part of an outstanding team that specialises in the field of chromatography. For over 30 years, our Reading site has been a market leader in the development, manufacture and supply of high-quality chromatography products, servicing both the UK and overseas markets



You will work the late shift, this includes the following working hours:


Monday - Thursday: 1:45 pm - 10:30 pm


Friday: 1:45 pm - 6:15 pm



What we are looking for


  • Education: good level of education, including English and Maths.

  • Experience: experience within chromatography is not required as full training will be given. Experience within manufacturing is beneficial.

  • IT skills: ability to use a range of other computer programs, including Excel, Word and Outlook. SAP knowledge of production, inventory and material creation (desirable but not essential as full training will be given)

  • Language skills: excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written

  • You are self-motivated, demonstrating initiative and result orientated

  • You strive for continual improvement, demonstrate innovation and organisational agility

  • You are able to supervise a team in a manufacturing environment and can lead by example

  • You are able to prioritize workload and multi-task and have a high level of attention to detail

  • You have strong numerical skills with an understanding of volumetric weights/analysis

  • You are committed to quality standards and the importance of following procedures




How you will thrive and create an impact


  • To assist with scheduling and overseeing work flow into the production areas in conjunction with the Laboratory Production Manager (LPM) and Production Planner.

  • Look after the supervisory administration of your team including goal setting, holiday and absence approval.

  • Answer team member questions and assist with solving problems, provide encouragement and identify areas for new/further training.

  • Have regular 1-2-1 meetings with all direct reports.

  • To assist with managing day to day operations such as evaluation backlogs, system requirements and ensuring columns are submitted promptly.

  • Ensure working practices and all H&S protocols are adhered to within lab at all times – immediately report any concerns to LPM and Safety Officer

  • Ongoing assessment of productivity and processing – regular feedback to LPM for discussion in weekly lab meetings.

  • Coordinating with other Laboratory Supervisors and covering for any supervisor absences.
