Assistant Psychologist, full time Band 4 role. This role is a fixed term contract until May 2025 to cover maternity leave

This is an exciting opportunity to participate in the development of a developing clinical service for adults experiencing complex PTSD. This is a relatively new service in Northamptonshire in recognition of an unmet clinical need in local pathways, especially between Talking Therapies (formerly IAPT) and secondary mental health services. The complex PTSD service will both deliver specialist clinical interventions, and also promote trauma-informed approaches in the wider service and across mental health pathways.

Northamptonshire Healthcare Foundation NHS Trust was rated as “Outstanding” by CQC in 2018 and is a great place to work. We are proud of the Psychology provision within the Trust, and feedback has consistently been that we have a well-developed Psychology network in the Trust which offers a strong sense of professional identity, support and strategic influence.

Psychology and psychological approaches are highly valued in the Trust, and psychologists have the opportunity to shape clinical and organisational strategy as well as provide clinical services. We believe that supporting and involving our staff means that they enjoy their work more, and that our clinical services are better as a result.

The post holder will support and enhance the professional psychological care of clients within the service; providing psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist. Assistant Psychologists will work according to a plan agreed with their supervisor and within the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures.

This post will involve assisting with formulation and delivery of treatment under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist in a variety of settings. The post holder may also have the opportunity to assist with the delivery of evidence-based therapeutic interventions. The post holder will assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work when needed.

We want to recruit a diverse workforce, who are values driven, compassionate and have a desire to deliver high quality care every day.

There are a significant number of psychologists employed within the Trust working across different specialties and there are excellent opportunities for professional development through regular monthly psychology meetings and active peer supervision networks. The Trust enjoys good links with both Oxford and Leicester Doctoral training courses.

We want our workforce to represent the diversity of the people and communities we work with. Studies show that people from minoritised ethnic groups and women are less likely to apply if they don’t meet every requirement. You could still be the right person for the job – if you’re excited about this role, we want to hear from you.

We’re happy to consider any reasonable adjustments that you need to be successful. We do everything we can to accommodate flexible working, including compressed or part-time hours, job shares and other arrangements. Please let us know in your application or at any stage of the process if you would like to explore these options.

The successful applicant(s) would receive professional support and be professionally and clinically accountable to the Consultant Clinical Psychologist Service Lead for the Complex PTSD service.

Northamptonshire is a pleasant area with a mix of rural and urban locations and is within easy distance of other key locations in the Midlands with excellent rail and road links.

For further information on the advertised role, please refer to the job description located under the Supporting Documents heading. The full person specification can be accessed under the ‘About You’ Section of the document.
