About the team?


The Traincrew Strategy team ensures that GWR is resourced appropriately to deliver our timetable to our customers, largely through development of long-term Workforce Plans. Within the driver function we are also planning a significant amount of route and traction training to resource our business for the future.


About the job?


The HS2 Workforce Planning Manager role sits within the Traincrew Strategy Team, within the Operations Directorate.


The purpose of the role is to enable the business to deliver the additional resource required due to the HS2 project. You will produce a Driver Management Workforce Plan and support the Traincrew Strategy team throughout HS2.


Your main responsibilities will be:



  • Developing a Workforce Plan for Management and supporting roles required to support the growing driver workforce at GWR

  • Identifying training requirements for Driver Management roles

  • Liaising with the Onboard function to identify additional resource required for HS2

  • Working with the Optimisation Manager to identify accommodation risks presented by the Driver/Onboard Workforce Plans due to the HS2 project

  • Representing the Traincrew Strategy team at HS2 led and related meetings

  • Provide data and reporting required by key stakeholders due to HS2 workstreams


You'll need to be 



  • Naturally inquisitive and analytical, with a numerate background

  • An expert user of Microsoft Excel, previous experience of Power BI would be desirable

  • A good communicator with strong stakeholder management experience

  • An independent learner with an enthusiasm for development

  • Able to work effectively in a team to find solutions cross functionally


About the location?


This role can be based anywhere on the GWR network with a minimum expectation of 2 days per week in Swindon. Opportunity to work flexibly around the needs of the role.


Working pattern?


Office hours – Monday-Friday, 37 hours per week 


Additional information?


This role is only for the duration of HS2, currently between 01 April 2024 to 31 March 2031. If HS2 is delayed, the position is likely to be extended.
