Job Purpose
To participate in a range of services within the library to support learning and research
To assist with the acquisition, development, and delivery of the University Library’s print and electronic resources. To contribute to the provision of core reading list materials (print and electronic) and other work of the department as required
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provide support in the processes for the acquisition and administration of teaching and research materials (print & electronic) following University policies and procedures
2. To undertake routine work for creating and reviewing reading lists for the Reading Lists@Glasgow service, including providing digitised extracts of in-copyright materials under the terms of the CLA UK HE scanning licence
3. Resolve common work problems, within appropriate guidelines and procedures and refer complex problems to senior colleagues as appropriate
4. Receive and respond to enquiries from a wide range of library users and external clients, judging when to refer to others to provide an effective service
5. Carry out other routine library duties, as directed by senior colleagues
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential:
A1 Either: Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post gained through working in a similar role. Or: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 4 in English and Mathematics (National 4) or equivalent, and some experience of working in a similar role
Desirable:
B1 Working knowledge of the Library Management System, Sierra
B2 Knowledge of Talis Aspire or other academic reading list software
B3 Some knowledge of the issues surrounding digitisation of course materials
B4 Some knowledge of the issues surrounding academic electronic resources
Skills
Essential:
C1 Good communication and interpersonal skills (written & oral)
C2 High standard of accuracy and attention to detail
C3 Good IT skills
C4 Competent numeracy and literacy skills
C5 Flexibility and adaptability with a commitment to learn new tasks and skills
C6 Ability to respond to changing priorities
Experience
Essential:
E1 Experience of working in a team environment
Desirable:
F1 Work experience in an academic library
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 3, £21,900 - £22,681 per annum
This post is full time (35 hours p/w) and open ended
