Position Overview


Ithaca Energy is accepting applications for the position of Wells Technical Manager, located in our Aberdeen Office.


The Wells Technical Manager, reporting to the Head of Wells, is responsible for ensuring technical assurance and regulatory compliance across all well engineering and operations activities. This includes overseeing well control, integrity, completions, workovers, and testing, while balancing technical merit, cost, schedule, and safety. The role involves leading technical standards development, managing competency assessments, reviewing critical well operations, and driving continuous improvement through lessons learned and new technologies. The manager also owns the wells management system documentation process and ensures alignment with industry standards and legislation.


Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing the Wells Technical Authorities for technically assuring Well Control, Well Integrity, Completion, Workover and Well testing engineering and operations.
  • Providing technical leadership and giving expert advice to the Wells function for the company.
  • Supporting the Wells department in finding the proper balance of technical merit, cost, schedule, and safety when assessing risk.
  • Managing verification to assure compliance with technical standards, processes, company procedures and regulatory requirements for well design and execution. Provision of technical assurance on individual well basis and at project level.
  • Responsible for the Wells Departmental Standards, Processes and Procedures and associated revision process, to meet regulatory compliance.
  • Accountable for the continuous improvement of technical standards, and processes to drive company well performance and project efficiency.
  • Accountable for the provision of well data reporting system, monitoring and quality assurance of the data and statistic data evaluation for performance management.
  • Provision of the company wells the lessons learnt data base, and ensuring implementation across the company wells design and execution stages
  • Assessing and maintaining the competency of the Technical Authorities and the skills necessary to carry out the respective technical assurance of well engineering and operations activities.
  • Review and approval of dispensations from company wells standards and MOCs for the well design and operations
  • Accountable for ensuring best industry practices, standards and company procedures are used and monitoring that all well engineering and operations are conducted as per authorised systems, standards, procedures and/or programmes.
  • Responsible for reviewing all well operations documents for critical wells. (Deep water, HPHT, ERD etc. )
  • Accountable for the process of wells risk management and mitigations including responsibility for ensuring actions are in place and applied.
  • Evaluate and propose any form of JIPs with other operators or contractors to study and implement new technologies to improve the efficiency of the well operations reducing risk, time and cost.
  • Accountable for implementation of a system defining high risk potential wells, based on well complexity indices and potential economic exposure.
  • Responsible for interacting with and supporting the Well Engineering Manager and Well Operations Manager in preparations of budgets and forecasts for wells activities.
  • Ensure that the technical specifications in place in the company to support all well operations are updated, following the engineering standard, legislation, IOGP and IADC, API, ISO etc...
  • Manage the competency and skills data base
  • Provide early technical assessment of new technologies and evaluation for implementation for performance improvement for Wells across the company.
  • Managing team consisting of Technical Authorities, Engineers and Technical Assistants, aligned to company goals and individual developments requirements


Qualifications & Experience

  • Extensive experience in Wells Operations and engineering.
  • University degree in relevant subject.
  • Demonstrated experience of working as technical expert in wells operations.
  • Extensive experience in drilling, completion, workover and well test ( in UKCS is a plus ).
  • Capable of demonstrating competence of managing expert people.
  • Planning and scheduling as well as document writing skills are required for this position therefor effective use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and a good working knowledge of maintenance and integrity management systems are required.
  • Embrace responsibility towards MAH (Major Accident Hazard) barrier assurance in an offshore operations environment.
  • Candidate must be self-motivated and can work with minimal guidance; the candidate shall also be pro-active in providing the relevant and appropriate input to project discussions.
  • Proven to be capable to work under pressure.
