Job Purpose

We’re looking for a Water Network Technician to support the daily operation and maintenance of clean water assets within a defined area. You’ll take ownership of key infrastructure including service reservoirs, valves, pumping stations, mains, and District Meter Areas (DMAs). The role involves resolving issues such as DMA meter faults, pressure management, and WSNP P1 leaks, while helping deliver the Distribution Operations Maintenance Strategy (DOMS) to ensure reliable network performance.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Inspect and maintain water network assets including service reservoirs, pumping stations, valves, trunk mains, and pressure vessels, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Identify and implement asset optimisation opportunities, manage asset status, and verify operational integrity within a defined geographical area.
  • Support network operations through boundary valve checks, DMA/DPA setup, rezoning, incident response, and local investigations.
  • Carry out technical tasks such as confined space entry, logger installation, pressure and flow investigations, illegal connection checks, and pump/generator operation.
  • Ensure compliance with UU’s Health & Safety policies, including PPE and vehicle standards, contractor sign-off, and support for statutory testing and audits.

Technical Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrable water network technical experience, including leakage detection and repair
  • Effective influencing and negotiation skills
  • Strong customer service focus and be able to resolve customer issues
  • Ability to work alone as well as effectively as part of a team
  • A good level of competency in the use of relevant IT packages
  • Previous experience of working in an operational environment
  • Previous experience of working within water networks

Qualifications

  • GCSE grade C or above, City and Guilds, or ability to demonstrate technical and customer skills
