Job Overview

Ward Clerk, Eden Day Unit, Wexham Park Hospital

As an essential member of the Eden Day Unit, the Ward Clerk provides vital administrative support to the unit’s managers and clinical team. This role involves performing a broad range of clerical and organisational tasks, helping to ensure the efficient day-to-day running of the unit. The Ward Clerk contributes to the delivery of high-quality patient care by maintaining accurate records, coordinating communication, and supporting the smooth flow of patients through the service.

Main duties of the job

  • General clerical and administrative duties including any speciality specific requirements that are compatible with the duties and responsibilities of the post.
  • Point of contact for all visitors to the unit. To ensure that all patients, visitors, and staff are treated in a courteous, professional, and caring manner and receive prompt assistance when required.
  • Ensure EPIC is maintained and up to date relevant to the Ward Clerk role. This to include:
  • Scanning/uploading documents/ patient records on to EPIC.
  • Transfer/discharge patients on EPIC.
  • Scan/upload relevant patient records.

As EPIC functionality develops at FHFT in its content, there may be several other administrative tasks deemed appropriate for this role to deliver. These may be generic, or speciality focussed.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • High standard of English communicational skills (verbal and written) with GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English

Desirable criteria

  • Excel and Word qualification or relevant transferable evidenced experience

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of clerical duties
  • High Standard of IT literacy/experience in computer use

Desirable criteria

  • Previous health care experience
  • Previous experience of working within a hospital setting

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Ability to work unsupervised at times and the ability to prioritise workloads under the guidance of line manager/Shift in Charge
  • Organisational skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (written and verbal) with the ability to communicate well at all levels, both face to face and by telephone
  • To be able to manage sensitive/ confidential information according to Trust policy

  • Work flexible hours as the service requires of the role
  • To work well in a small team
