Join VellumWorks as a Trustee and help with our operations and strategy. You will help shape our internal systems and support our growth. Ideal for someone with strategic and operational experience who wants to make a impact.
What difference will you make?
As part of our board, you will support and shape the way VellumWorks operates, helping us grow from a promising early-stage organisation into a well-run, sustainable charity. This is a vital role, ensuring we have the systems, processes, and coordination in place to deliver on our mission building free digital tools that support charities and communities doing important work. Your contribution will make a direct difference to the impact we can have and the support we can provide to the people and organisations who rely on us.
What are we looking for?
We’re looking for someone with a background in operations, project management, or organisational strategy, ideally with experience in early-stage organisations, nonprofits, or social enterprises. You should be confident in areas like setting up internal systems, improving workflows, coordinating people, and supporting good governance. Experience with tools like ClickUp is a bonus, or supports us using different software that will help us be organised throughout our operations and grow. You’ll need to be organised, reliable, and solutions-focused—someone who enjoys bringing clarity to complexity, and who can help build simple, scalable systems that support a growing team. We also value empathy, collaboration, and a commitment to social impact. You don’t need to have trustee experience already—just the willingness to learn and the drive to help shape something meaningful. You’ll work closely with the Chair and fellow trustees, helping us stay focused, accountable, and aligned with our mission. Skills & experience we’re looking for Experience in operations, programme/project management, or organisational development Knowledge of tools for planning and coordination - preferably ClickUp Ability to design or improve internal processes, workflows, and documentation Understanding of governance, compliance, or reporting in a charity or startup context (helpful but not essential) Experience building scalable systems in lean or early-stage teams Strategic thinker with a practical, action-oriented mindset Personal qualities Organised, dependable, and self-motivated Strong communicator who’s happy working in a remote, collaborative team Willing to take initiative and offer guidance as needed Passionate about social impact and purpose-driven work Comfortable contributing to both day-to-day decisions and long-term planning
What will you be doing?
VellumWorks is in an exciting phase of growth. We’re building free, accessible digital tools to support charities and underfunded causes. As a young organisation, we’re full of energy and ideas, but we now need to strengthen our operational foundations to grow sustainably and strategically. Our current board brings strong creative, marketing, and technical expertise. What we’re now missing is someone with experience in operations, planning, and internal systems, someone who can help us run more effectively behind the scenes whilst also bringing growth. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building structure, improving workflows, and helping a mission-led organisation run smoothly. You’ll help shape how we manage projects, coordinate volunteers, track impact, and stay accountable as we scale. You’ll work closely with the Chair and fellow trustees to improve how we plan and deliver our work, bringing operational thinking to our board. This isn’t just a governance role, it’s an opportunity to help build something from the ground up and ensure we’re prepared for the impact we want to create. We aim to extend beyond the web, supporting real-world initiatives that serve displaced people, expand access to education, and build infrastructure in places where it’s needed most. The systems we make today will enable us to support those efforts tomorrow. You’ll be helping to design the operational backbone of an organisation built to last.
