Volunteer Trustee to join a charity supporting the elderly in the local community | Age Concern Orpington and District
Saxon Day Centre
Date: 1 week ago
City: Orpington
Contract type: Full time
We are seeking trustees to join us in the strategic management and oversight of the Saxon Day Centre, a day care centre supporting the wellbeing of older people in the local community.
What difference will you make?
Being part of the board of trustees of Age Concern Orpington & District provides a great opportunity to contribute to the local community, in particular, to the wellbeing of older people. We know that the services we provide to our clients and their carers and family members are valued and as a trustee you will make a significant contribution to the success of the work of charity and the Saxon Day Centre and will help to enable our goal of supporting the quality of life of our elderly clients, including those who are physically frail and/or have dementia and who are in need of a day out from their home environment, or whose carers are in need a day of respite. You may also wish to take part in the activities of the Saxon Day Centre - some trustees do and others prefer to remain in the background. But you can be be assured that your contribution as a trustee benefits the local community and will be greatly appreciated by clients, their carers and family members, as well as our staff and volunteers.
What are we looking for?
We look for individuals to join our board, who share our vision that older people should be supported and provided with opportunities to thrive and enjoy their later years and who are proactive and willing and able to apply their skills and experience to offer support to the team in areas where these might add value. Ideally our Trustees will have business or general management experience. Experience of finance or budget management is helpful, as is experience of working in a regulated environment. Experience of health or social care is useful although not essential. Professional and other transferable skills gained throughout life can all contribute to our goals.
What will you be doing?
Age Concern Orpington & District is a standalone organisation, fully responsible for all aspects of decision making and operations pertaining to the charity and the services it provides. We are not part of any other charity or organisation and so are completely reliant on donations and income we generate from our services. The board of trustees includes the roles of Chair and Treasurer and all members contribute to developing approaches and strategy to ensure that the charity and our services remain viable and that the services we provide are of high quality and are available to as many people as may benefit. Members of the board all share a vision that older people should be supported and provided with opportunities to thrive and enjoy their later years. Our board is proactive and constructive and each member brings their own skills and experience and applies these to support the team in areas where these might add value. Individual trustees also lead in areas of their interest or expertise, working with internal and external groups to progress our goals.
