Share Bristol - Library of Things
Date: 1 day ago
City: Remote
Contract type: Full time

Our vision is that everybody shares. Join us at Bristol and South Gloucestershire's Library of Things to help us protect the environment and support local communities, through providing the Things people need to live their lives.
What difference will you make?
As a Trustee with Share Bristol you will see first hand the pleasure that a Library of Things can bring to local people - from the dawning realisation that they will be able to access the Things they need when you are explaining the concept to someone for the first time, to seeing someone come back to borrow time and time again as they work on a big project and tell you about its progress. Through our work we reduce the amount of goods that people buy, and the amount of packaging and eventually items that end up in landfill. We make accessing things affordable, bringing parties, DIY projects, deep cleaning and camping holidays within people's reach. And we help bring people together, through fostering a sense of community. As a Trustee, you will be part of this, and help us increase our impact even more.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone with a strong marketing background. Our challenges are to make the general population aware that Share Bristol and libraries of things exist, help people see the relevance to them and the benefit we could have for them, encourage people to join as members, and persuade people to renew their membership each year. So, we're looking for someone who understands how to communicate with different segments of people, and the best language, channels and techniques to do this. Someone who can use the information we hold on our existing members, and use it to better inform our marketing and communications work. If you are also confident with social media, newsletters and so on that would be a plus.
What will you be doing?
We’re at an exciting time in our journey, as our Kingswood Library of Things is well established, although still needing to attract more members, and we have just opened our second site, in Bedminster. So, we are seeking to enhance our Trustee team to bring in new skills and expertise in the key area we are currently lacking - marketing and communications. As a Trustee, you will be part of a team leading Share Bristol as we ensure our organisation is as good as it can be, and consider our strategy for the future, whilst listening to our local community, being inclusive, and responding to local demand. We already make a difference in many ways, including reduction in waste, creating more space in homes and giving people better access to things, but could do more! At the moment our impact is focused around the Kingswood and Bedminster areas, but there are still many people who are not aware of us, or of the potential for Share Bristol to help them in their lives. We would like someone with marketing expertise to help us reach more people, and encourage them to become members, year on year. We are looking for Trustees who complement our existing skills and experience to make us a fully rounded team of experts who will ensure we are financially sustainable and making an impact in the local community and beyond. Our team is friendly and welcoming, and some are able to give a lot of time, others a lot of expertise. We’re a flexible bunch who meet once a quarter at the moment, but communicate frequently between meetings and see each other informally at the Library of Things, along with our ever-growing team of volunteers. All are welcome and we are particularly keen to hear from people belonging to groups who are under-represented in the environmental field.
