The DSM Foundation is a compassionate, connected charity delivering quality drug education to young people. We are seeking a committed and financially skilled individual to join our Board of Trustees as Treasurer

What are we looking for?

Key qualities and skills required Financial qualifications and/or experience. Experience of financial control and budgeting. Some experience and/or knowledge of charity finance. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Experience of management/ leadership. Willingness and availability to work on DSMF matters on a regular basis each month and to be contacted on an ad hoc basis. DSMF Trustees have a range of abilities, skills, and experience, including Commitment to helping the Foundation achieve its objectives of educating, informing and empowering young people to make safe choices about drugs. An understanding of the impact of substance misuse on the lives of young people and their families and friends. A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort, including preparing for meetings, attending meetings, and responding to correspondence. Ability to evaluate and interpret information. A willingness to learn and maximise personal development. Good independent judgement and the ability to express constructive opinions. An ability to think creatively in a problem solving/ strategic way. A willingness to accept the legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of being a trustee. An ability to work effectively as a member of a team. Objectivity, accountability, openness, and honesty. Experience gained through your personal or work life that may be relevant to the Foundation’s work, including working with young people/their families, in educational settings or in the voluntary sector. What will you be doing?

The role of the Treasurer is to maintain an overview of the Foundation’s financial affairs, ensuring its viability and ensuring that proper financial records and procedures are maintained. The Treasurer is supported in this role by the Resources and Governance subgroup, and delegates the day-to-day financial management to the Head of Operations and the Management Accountancy support. In addition to the general Trustee/ Board member responsibilities, the Treasurer will be responsible for general financial oversight, including guiding and advising the Board in the approval of budgets, accounts and financial statements, supporting the Director, Head of Operations and accountant in their finance related duties, and working with them on management accounts, end of year accounts, the budget and other finance related matters, and ensuring that appropriate financial procedures and controls are in place, and compliance with relevant legislation and regulatory bodies. The Treasurer is also responsible for financial planning and reporting, advising the Board on the financial implications of the Foundation’s strategic plans and key assumptions in the operational plan and annual budget, ensuring a realistic budget is produced, that the Foundation’s income and expenditure position are monitored and that reports to the board is presented at least quarterly, that accounts are prepared at year-end and submitted to all relevant Charity Commissions and Companies House, within the deadlines set. The Treasurer will be expected to attend all Board meetings, which are held bi-monthly, and the Annual General Meeting. They will also be part of the Resources and Governance sub-committee which meets as needed. In addition to Board meetings it is estimated that Treasurer will need to be able to spend around 4-5 hours per month on DSM Foundation financial matters. Please note the DSM Foundation is based in Croydon and the Treasurer will need to be able to attend in person meetings locally.
