Volunteer PR expert to help spread the word about childhood arthritis | Juvenile Arthritis Research

Juvenile Arthritis Research

Date: 4 weeks ago
City: Tonbridge
Contract type: Full time
Remote
Babies, children and young people can get arthritis too. But most people don't know that. You can help change that by supporting Juvenile Arthritis Research charity.

What difference will you make?

You'll not only be making a difference to the lives of children with JIA and their families but by improving awareness, you'll be helping aid earlier diagnosis and treatment. We know that leads to better outcomes for children and reduces the risk of permanent joint damage and lifelong disability. Earlier diagnosis also reduces the risk of loss of eyesight resulting from JIA-related uveitis that affects around 1 in 5 children with JIA.

What are we looking for?

PR experience and expertise. Excellent spelling and grammar. Ability to seek opportunities and to work independently. Self-motivated. Willing to ask questions. Able to create their own PR plan and work to it to meet deadlines. Efficient and able to make a quick start and fast progress.

What will you be doing?

We are looking for a volunteer with PR expertise. We want to 'move the needle' on the low awareness of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) that hasn't changed for decades. Everything we do as a charity is about making a real difference and impact to the lives of those with JIA. Even though we are a very small charity, we do a LOT but have never had the time or expertise to shout about what we do and to get the word out there. We need someone with PR expertise to help us to do that. Typical tasks may include (though the right volunteer will know what is required to be successful in this role better than we do) - Being briefed on some of our projects, and initiatives and what we do and have been doing, including our founder story and other interesting projects. Identifying which are most likely to capture public interest and turning them into compelling press releases. - Reaching out to and making contact with journalists to pitch our stories. - Following up and seeing through pieces making it into the press and media. - Reporting back on how this has gone. - Knowing any other ways of reaching out to journalists and media, eg. use of press release sites and tools and then following up. - We'd love someone who can give 2 hours per week on a regular basis to really get this off the ground and see a difference.
