The Chairperson and Trustee of Sage Counselling plays a vital role in leading the board of trustees and the management committee.

What difference will you make?

Our client group are clients with mobility issues who are unable to access other counselling services without aid due to mobility restrictions. Mobility issues can arise from disabilities, medical conditions, psychological and emotional issues including loss and grief, loss of independence, relationship issues and unresolved conflicts, death and dying, adjusting to change, loneliness depression and anxiety.

What will you be doing?

Role of Chair Current chair describes her role for Chair of Sage Counselling, where she is part of both the Trustee and Management Committees. Her work covers two main areas strategic and operational responsibilities. 1. Strategic Role (Big Picture) Strategy & Direction – Works with Trustees to ensure the organisation follows its values, legal rules, and governing documents while serving clients effectively. Monitoring Trends – Keeps up to date with issues like referral numbers, financial health, payment rates, and client waiting lists. Values – Ensures services remain accessible, affordable, and supportive for clients with mobility or financial issues. Questioning – Challenges ideas and proposals to encourage discussion and better decisions, even if it’s not always popular. 2. Operational Role (Day-to-Day) Management Duties – Involved in tasks like finding venues, working on policies, business planning, and reviewing operational changes. Clinical Oversight – Clinical work is handled by the Counselling Coordinator and Supervisors, but the Chair must be ready to respond to complaints or legal issues. Decision Implementation – Ensures agreed actions are followed through by checking meeting minutes and evidence. Staff Engagement – Maintains good relationships by listening to staff and Trustees’ concerns through conversations, emails, or texts. Appreciation – Regularly thanks members for their contributions to keep morale high. 3. Leadership. (In Meetings) Meetings Management – Keeps meetings on track, follows agendas, ensures everyone has a voice, and facilitates decision-making. Preparation – Ensures agendas and reports are shared ahead of time, giving members the opportunity to review and contribute. Overall The role of Chair and Trustee is guiding Sage Counselling strategically and operationally, ensuring decisions are made effectively, actions are implemented, and the team is valued in the effort to provide the best possible counselling service for clients.
