Volunteer Chair to help drive future strategy for music charity | Hertfordshire Festival of Music
Hertfordshire Festival of Music
Date: 3 weeks ago
City: Hatfield
Contract type: Full time
Remote

Established in 2016 the Charity aims to bring a vibrant focus for classical music in Hertfordshire. Strategic leadership from a new, visionary Chair of Trustees aims to help develop the charity and secure a long-term sustainable future.
What difference will you make?
The Chair of Trustees is a key role in our organisation. Joining the charity at an exciting time in its history, you will help maximise the opportunity presented by the milestone of our 10th anniversary and use it as a platform for future success. Your leadership, energy and commitment will ensure we remain an active and relevant player within the Hertfordshire cultural community and continue to enrich individual lives through music and also support a sense of civic pride within communities.
What are we looking for?
The successful candidate will have proven strategic leadership/governance experience (ideally in the arts sector), strong financial management expertise and problem-solving skills. Demonstrable experience of building positive relationships will be underpinned by strong communication and interpersonal skills. They will possess a commitment to inclusivity, community engagement and recognise the power of music to change lives. As Chair, you will be a key ambassador for the charity and promote our work. Further details can be found in the Recruitment Pack attached.
What will you be doing?
The Festival is now established and respected within the county’s cultural sector. Looking to the future, strategic discussions to date have highlighted four key aims to develop our audience base (growing engagement through geographic and demographic channels), to target excellence and breadth in our artistic programmes which maximise engagement; to strengthen partnership working; to further expand our income stream base to continue to deliver sustainability and support innovation. These aims inherently recognise the underlying need to address perceptions around the classical genre and remove the barriers which may prevent access to experiencing such music and its life-enhancing capacity. With robust governance, growing advocacy, and an openness to new ideas and approaches, the Hertfordshire Festival of Music is well placed to evolve as a leading regional festival with national resonance. As Chair, you’ll bring new ideas and energy to the table and, through collaborative working, guide our small, committed Board of Trustees to make informed plans for the future. Specific activities in support of the above responsibilities will include working closely with the Artistic Director, overseeing Board (planning and leading Board Meetings) and Sub-Committee functioning, and be a visible and active presence during the Festival. Further details can be found in the Recruitment Pack attached.
