What are we looking for?
Essential Requirements Experience of editorial leadership and management as evidenced by roles or responsibilities such as conference chair, participation in task and finish groups, policy drafting and dissemination, journal editorship, content commissioning roles, management of a professional special interest group, writing for publication, and other forms of content development Experience of producing content across a range of forms and platforms, including but not limited to publications, policy briefings, press releases, podcasts, newsletters, LinkedIn, BlueSky. Demonstrated experience in managing teams. Strong understanding of the application of behavioural or social science to any of the following; public and population health, clinical care, sustainability, education, social care, public sector policy and/or service delivery. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal abilities Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a senior leadership team and with external partners. Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and a commitment to building inclusive communities. Demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of the BSPHN. Relevant Post-Graduate Degree or equivalent professional experience in any of the following; Behavioural Science, Medicine or Professions Allied to Medicine, Public Health, Social Science, Public Administration, Social Care, or a related field. Desirable Requirements Experience working on initiatives within the UK health, social care, sustainability or education sectors, or policy landscape. Experience in budget management and financial oversight. Experience in commercial role focussed on delivering value to paying customers An established network of contacts within the UK behavioural or social science, public health, medical or Professions Allied to Medicine, education, social care or policy communities. Experience in advocating or delivering policy or service reform, particularly leveraging behavioural/social science insights.
What will you be doing?
We are seeking a dynamic Editorial Director to support the work of the BSPHN. This pivotal role will develop a strategic vision for how the BSPHN’s actions will deliver its mission to mainstream behavioural science research and methods within public sector service delivery. The Editorial Director will keep ahead of the key issues relevant to the applied behavioural science community and work collaboratively with the BSPHN senior leadership team to co-ordinate the organisation’s responses. Support for implementing this role will be provided by a dedicated editorial team, and other teams within the BSPHN executive. Editorial Director Responsibilities & Duties Develop and lead the strategic plan for the BSPHN’s outward facing activities, ensuring alignment with the overall BSPHN mission and strategic objectives. Anticipate and identify the key issues of interest to and affecting applied behavioural scientists in the UK public sector and co-ordinate BSPHN responses to those issues. Work with the Managing Editor and other members of the BSPHN Senior Leadership Team to ensure there is consistency across BSPHN outputs, services and products, aligned to the organisation’s strategic objectives. Provide leadership, supervision, and mentorship to the rest of the Editorial Team, including the Managing Editor and the Podcast Manager, and their direct reports. Developing and overseeing budgets for BSPHN outputs that fall within the remit of the Editorial Director role, with support from the BSPHN CEO and Treasurer. Ensure the activities of the BSPHN reflect its commitment to building a diverse, representative and supportive network which promotes equality and equity.
