What difference will you make?

By joining One Community Development Trust as a Bid Writer, your impact will be immediate, measurable, and deeply meaningful. You won’t just be writing proposals—you’ll be unlocking funding that transforms lives and uplifts entire communities in Thurrock and beyond. Each successful bid you secure helps drive forward vital programmes like mental health support, skills development, social inclusion, and wellbeing services—initiatives that directly serve people facing barriers such as poverty, isolation, disability, and economic inactivity. This is your chance to put purpose into every paragraph. Your strategic writing will bring in unrestricted income that fuels our 3-year vision Building the New Different—a thriving, equitable Tilbury and Southern Thurrock where everyone belongs and prospers. In this role, you are not just chasing funding—you are enabling regeneration that reflects the strength, voices, and hopes of the people who live here. Every bid is a step toward real change—and you are the person who helps us take it.

What are we looking for?

Key Skills The ideal candidate will have excellent writing and editing abilities, capable of producing clear, persuasive funding applications. Strong research skills are essential, as you'll need to identify new funding opportunities, understand funder criteria, and gather supporting evidence. Attention to detail is key, particularly when interpreting guidelines or preparing budgets. You should also have excellent organisational and time management skills, able to manage multiple deadlines and projects at once. Strong communication skills are vital—this role involves liaising with internal teams to gather content, costings, and impact data. A basic understanding of financial documentation and budgets will also be important when developing costed proposals. You should be confident using tools like Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and any relevant online grant platforms or CRM systems. Experience We are looking for someone with a proven track record in writing successful bids and securing funding from a variety of sources such as trusts, foundations, statutory bodies, or corporates. Experience working in or with third sector/community organisations is highly desirable, as is a sound understanding of social impact and community development. Experience developing theories of change, logic models, or impact frameworks to support applications is a strong plus. Ideally, you’ll also have experience in preparing reports for funders and feeding into monitoring and evaluation frameworks. Personal Qualities The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker with the ability to align funding opportunities with our organisational goals. You should be resilient, able to manage rejection, and stay motivated to keep pursuing new opportunities. Curiosity and initiative are valued—especially when it comes to asking the right questions to develop a compelling case for support. You should be collaborative and enjoy working across teams to build bids that are both realistic and ambitious. Above all, we’re looking for someone values-driven, who shares our commitment to inclusion, empowerment, and creating lasting change in our communities.

What will you be doing?

You’ll collaborate closely with our Finance Manager, Business Development Manager, and a dedicated team of volunteers to meet our financial targets and build long-term sustainability. Your bids will support our 3-year strategy, Building the New Different, and help fund innovative programmes that improve lives. We’re looking for someone who is Organised and skilled in time and project management Able to work independently while also thriving in a collaborative, cross-functional team Passionate about community-driven change and committed to ethical standards in fundraising Experienced in planning and executing income-generating campaigns and writing compelling bids Key Responsibilities Research and identify new funding opportunities from trusts, foundations, and government bodies Write compelling, high-quality proposals that reflect our mission and meet funder priorities Collaborate with internal teams to gather programme data, impact evidence, and budget details Manage a calendar of deadlines and ensure all submissions are timely and complete Track outcomes and improve future submissions using feedback and performance analysis Requirements Proven success in bid writing, ideally within the charity or nonprofit sector Excellent writing and editing skills with strong attention to detail Confident in managing multiple projects under pressure Familiar with the UK funding landscape and key grant-making bodies Strong research, analytical, and communication skills Why Join Us? Work flexibly and remotely (or hybrid if preferred) Play a key role in driving social impact at a grassroots level Earn commission on every successful funding bid you secure At One Community, we are proud to be an inclusive employer. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and experiences and are happy to make reasonable adjustments to support a fair recruitment process.
