Working to assess manned and unmanned air systems, the work is varied, with regular new developments making this a particularly exciting area. The work offers an excellent opportunity to utilise and develop technical, analytical, operational knowledge. Although a technical role, you will be exposed to multiple teams across DI, the wider UK intelligence community and MoD as well as our foreign partners. This will give you an excellent opportunity to see how the intelligence community works and how it influences wider government decision making.

In DI our people solve problems, create understanding and give perspective to the diverse and complex Defence threats and challenges in a rapidly changing world. Together our civilians and military personnel inform decision making in Defence, manage complex finance programmes and develop new technology.

Job Description

Defence Intelligence (DI) is a world-class organisation that supports policy and decision-making at the heart of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and the national security community. DI takes information from overt and covert sources to identify threats and opportunities, working across departmental and international boundaries. This includes some of the most sensitive work in Defence, and is fundamental to ensuring the safety, security and prosperity of the UK.

The UAS1 post-holder is required to carry out technical assessments of uncrewed air systems (UAS/UAV/Drones) and their sub-systems. The post-holder will be required to contribute to a range of product types, from detailed technical reports through to urgent, short notice, assessments for senior customers. They will produce and update extant assessments on DI’s primary web-based product (THREATWeb); therefore, computer literacy, good communication skills and numeracy are essential. There is also a requirement to routinely liaise with a number of internal MoD and external agencies, including civilian companies and international intelligence partners, to enhance the UK’s understanding of threat systems. As such, there is a requirement for some overseas travel

The successful candidate will have a STEM subject degree or able to demonstrate equivalent technical knowledge and experience. They will have an engineering or science-based background and have a good knowledge and interest of air systems.
