Job Title: Undergraduate Maritime Services Safety Engineer
Location: Portsmouth Naval Base (Hampshire)
We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements, however for this role you will be expected to attend your site 3-5 days per week.
Salary: £24,300

Qualification Requirements
As a minimum requirement you’ll need to have obtained, or be predicted to obtain, a 2.2 in your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering Disciplines, Safety Engineering, Environmental, Physics.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Safety Case architecture.
- Developing a unique mind-set in which the question to be answered is not how does it work, but how does it fail. To do this you will;
- Carry out a detailed Safety Inspection of the engineering design using tools such as Hazard Identification, Fault Tree Analysis, Functional Hazard Analysis, Event Tree Analysis and many others.
- Develop an in depth understanding of the engineering design.
- This is a role which requires relentless effort in which subjective questions must be answered with a compelling argument supported by a body of evidence.
- Questions such as how can this piece of equipment or function fail, what would happen if it were to fail, what would be the consequence of its failure, how often will it fail, what safety measures are in place in the event of its failure, how often will the failure result in an accident, what is the risk associated with this failure, is the risk acceptable, has the risk been reduced to As Low As Reasonably Practicable.
