Company Description

The Literacy Pirates, formerly known as The Hackney Pirates, is an innovative charity dedicated to enhancing the literacy, confidence, and perseverance of children aged 9-12 years. We offer a year-long, after-school learning program for children identified by their schools as needing extra support to achieve their full potential. Working in collaboration with schools, families, and volunteers, we create a unique learning environment in our Haringey and Hackney "Ships," complete with engaging features like secret passageways and creative spaces. Young Pirates participate in reading support and creative publishing projects, where they develop their writing skills and showcase their work in books, audio, and digital formats. Our mission is to make learning a fun and adventurous experience while empowering children to excel in school and beyond.

Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Trusts and Foundations Manager, based in London. The role involves identifying and cultivating relationships with potential donors, drafting compelling funding proposals, and ensuring timely reporting to funders. The manager will work closely with the leadership team to secure funding, develop strategies to achieve income targets, and manage relationships with trusts and foundations. Additionally, the role requires tracking grant opportunities, maintaining records, and providing regular updates on fundraising progress.

Qualifications
  • Strong skills in grant writing, fundraising, and proposal development.
  • Experience in donor relationship management and stewarding trust and foundation partners.
  • Proficiency in budget management and financial reporting related to grant funding.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of the charity sector and experience working in a nonprofit organization, especially in education or youth services, is a plus.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a passionate team and adapt to a dynamic working environment.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of The Literacy Pirates.
