Trustee

Point 13 Jobs

Date: 1 week ago
City: Manchester
Contract type: Full time

Working in partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University, The Union at MMU is a charity that supports students in succeeding in all aspects of their lives. The charity is now seeking a Trustee and Chair of the Board of Trustees to join its team.

Independent Trustee

The trustees will need to be sympathetic to the aims of the organisation and share a commitment to the broader values of the student movement: student representation, student rights, and the student experience. You will understand the importance of providing students with a platform to help make these values a reality.

The role requires careful balance. The primary responsibilities of the trustee board are to set the strategic direction of The Union and to ensure the organisation is well governed, financially sustainable, and legally compliant. As a membership organisation, all decisions of the board must also consider student democracy.

An eye for detail and the ability to identify future opportunities are important. The organisation is also seeking to recruit individuals with specialist knowledge in the key areas where expertise is needed.

Chair of the Board of Trustees

The Chair will hold the Board accountable for The Union’s mission and vision, providing inclusive and strategic leadership to the Board of Trustees and ensuring that each trustee fulfils their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of The Union.

The Chair will also support the Chief Executive Officer and ensure that the Board functions as a unit, working closely with the entire Leadership Team of the charity to achieve agreed objectives.

You will act as an ambassador for The Union in partnership with the Chief Executive and President.

Contract: Fixed-term, voluntary position (current opportunities are either a three-year term or a co-opted one-year term)

These opportunities have a rolling deadline; applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis and will close once the roles have been filled.
