- Consultant Transport Planner (Reading)
We provide expert advice on a wide range of projects across the UK and beyond from new settlements and nationally strategic infrastructure projects, through to urban regeneration schemes and a wide range of education, employment and sports and leisure developments.
Our aim is to provide a supportive, friendly and relaxed environment for our junior staff where innovation and personal development are encouraged. We will drive your career forward and help you to achieve your potential by offering you the opportunity to be involved in a number of different activities and expose you to the broad range of projects that PJA are involved in.
We are seeking an exceptional Transport Planning Consultant to join our team in Reading, who can help us to meet the growing portfolio of projects within one of the UK’s leading independent consultancies.
While our ideal candidate for this role will have at least two years’ experience we would also welcome speculative applications from people starting out in their careers or with more limited levels of experience within a graduate role.
Above all we are looking for enthusiastic individuals who wish to contribute to shaping and growing a high performing, dynamic team, working seamlessly across our national business. Our transport planners support our clients in finding the best outcomes for their transport challenges.
Our ideal candidate
Our ideal candidates will be educated to degree level or above with experience in transport planning in either a private sector consultancy or public sector environment. We will also consider applications from candidates who have followed a different path into the industry such as through an apprenticeship.
Ideally they should have experience of working as part of a team on transport planning commissions with both public and private sector clients (degree of autonomy dependant on experience and role). As a confident communicator verbally and in writing, they will be required to present and communicate their ideas clearly and concisely both internally and also to a wide range of external audiences.
Skills
Depending on experience our ideal candidates will also have some, but not necessarily all, of the following alongside a willingness to learn and develop new skills:
- Experience in private sector development planning projects including the production of Transport Assessments and Travel Plans
- Knowledge of preliminary highway design and swept path assessment
- Experience in undertaking the Travel Plan Coordinator role
- Excellent communication skills and interface with clients
- Strong technical background with knowledge of industry specific modelling software
- GIS Experience
- Knowledge of data analysis techniques, and experience in interrogation, analysis and presentation mindful of the needs of different audiences
- The ability to undertake focussed, problem solving tasks with an appropriate degree of independence to arrive at solutions to often complex challenges
- An understanding of the planning process in England, and experience of applying government policy and guidance to projects
As a member of the PJA team, you can expect:
- An attractive and modern working environment with good accessibility by all modes of transport
- The opportunity to progress quickly within the firm
- A wide range of challenging projects
- Approved training schemes and development opportunities at a pace and direction that suit you
- Ongoing support, training and mentoring from senior professionals within the business with a real commitment from senior management towards personal and professional development
- Competitive salary
- 25 Days annual leave plus the ability to purchase additional days
- Hybrid working arrangements
- Option to participate in the Company Share Ownership scheme
- Private healthcare
- Cycle to Work Scheme
- Techscheme
- Payment of professional subscription
- Membership of our group pension scheme
- Life Assurance
