Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Band 5 Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC) or Registered Nurse (NMC) to come and join our Anaesthetic Team at Glan Clwyd Hospital. This post requires a recognised anaesthetic course/module qualification.

We currently have 12 Theatres throughout the hospital supporting specialisms such as Orthopaedics, Colorectal, ENT, Urology, Gynaecology and Upper GI.

The successful candidate will join a dedicated, hardworking team and develop skills in both adult and children's perioperative journeys. They will also gain experience in Maternity care and outlying areas such as MRI and Resus.

The post holder will work collaboratively and co-operatively with other members of the multi-disciplinary team, meeting the needs of the patient whilst under no direct supervision. Assist in the management and organisation of clinical and satellite areas, implementing improvements to working practices as identified by audit/clinical trials. Participate in the education and development of other staff members and students.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based patient care. Clinical expertise is utilised during all phases of the peri-operative period. Skilled assistance is provided in the surgical care of the patient. These skills can also be employed in other areas of Theatre, such as Anaesthetics with the recognised qualification and in other satellite areas such as X-Ray and Obstetrics.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential criteria

  • NMC/HCPC registered Operating Department Practitioner at Degree level or equivalent
  • Accredited level 5 certificate/module in anaesthetic care if applying for anaesthetic role

Desirable criteria

  • Teaching/Mentoring/assessing qualification
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Knowledge of the role within a theatre environment

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in a wide variety of clinical specialities within the operating department
