Are you a qualified teacher in Scotland or Northern England with the flexibility to travel to Scottish Secondary schools? Are you seeking flexible work during August and September 2025?

If so, you may be interested in becoming an NFER Study Administrator.

What does being a Study Administrator involve?

Study Administrators are skilled and experienced qualified teachers who administer assessments in classrooms, ensuring they are delivered to the specifications outlined in research or assessment projects. We are currently looking for individuals based in Scotland or the North of England who are interested in becoming Study Administrators on the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) In Scotland. PISA, organised by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), is an assessment of 15-year-old’s skills in mathematics, reading and science. NFER is delivering PISA 2025 in Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government.

Key Responsibilities

As a Study Administrator on PISA, you will be expected to:

  • Complete training in person in Edinburgh in April 2025 (expenses will be provided, date to be confirmed).
  • Arrange visits with allocated schools, communicating professionally via email.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with school staff.
  • Be a professional ambassador for NFER.
  • Travel to schools to oversee computer-based assessments in the classroom, with support from school staff during August and September 2025.
  • Follow all study administration guidelines and/or scripts provided by NFER.
  • Resolve any issues or queries schools may have, with continuous support from NFER.
  • Adhere to security procedures and any ensure materials are returned promptly.

Rates of Pay

Study Administrators will be paid £150-£200 per school visit, plus travel expenses. This payment also covers all communication with the school prior to the visit. The assessment visit is expected to last 3 hours.

Training will be in person in Edinburgh. You will be paid separately for attending the training and also receive expenses. Those with a long journey will be offered accommodation.

We are seeking candidates who:

  • Are registered with the General Teaching Council Scotland (GTCS) or hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Have knowledge of how to manage a classroom.
  • Have a Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme certificate, or willingness to get one.
  • Are computer literate (as the assessment is computer-based).
  • Are willing and able to travel up to 20 miles from their home address to schools (please note, we aim to minimise the distance you travel).
  • Are legally entitled to work in the UK.
  • Are not barred from working with children.

Desirable Experience:

We are particularly interested in hearing from individuals with experience of working in secondary schools and those with capacity to visit schools for a minimum of two days per week through August and September 2025.
