Role Overview: We are seeking a dynamic 'hands-on' Team Leader to manage and guide our factory team. This role requires a balance between leadership, management, and active participation in factory operations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in manufacturing, demonstrate excellent communication skills, and have the ability to foster a collaborative and productive work environment.

Work Environment

  • The role is primarily based in a factory setting, which may involve exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels, and standing for extended periods.
  • Flexibility in working hours, including potential shifts, is required to meet project and operational demands.

The role is based out of our Painter Brothers factory in Hereford.

What you'll be doing

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership & Management:
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of factory workers ensuring high performance and morale.
  • Facilitate daily team meetings to set objectives, provide guidance, and maintain open communication.
  • Monitor team performance and productivity, providing constructive feedback and support.
  • Implement and maintain strong health and safety practices within the team.
  • Operational Oversight:
  • Oversee daily factory operations, ensuring all tasks are completed on time and to specification.
  • Coordinate with project managers and other departments to align factory operations with project requirements.
  • Manage resource allocation efficiently to meet production demands.
  • Engage actively in problem-solving to address any operational challenges promptly.
  • Hands-On Participation:
  • Actively participate in the factory floor activities, operating machinery, and performing tasks as needed.
  • Set a high standard of work ethic and productivity, serving as a role model for team members.
  • Cover for team members during holidays and sickness by running machines and ensuring seamless operations.
  • Quality Control:
  • Conduct regular quality inspections to ensure product standards are met.
  • Identify and address any quality issues immediately, implementing corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate records of quality inspections and non-conformances.
  • Training & Development:
  • Identify training needs within the team and organise relevant training sessions.
  • Ensure team members are up-to-date with industry best practices and safety protocols.
  • Encourage continuous learning and professional development among team members.
  • Compliance & Reporting:
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records related to factory operations and personnel.

Who we're looking for

Key Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a hands-on leadership role within a manufacturing or factory environment.
  • In-depth understanding of factory operations and machinery.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining high health and safety standards.
  • Proficiency in operating factory machinery and willingness to participate in operational tasks.

Preferred Experience

  • Relevant certifications in manufacturing, engineering, or project management.
  • Previous experience with Balfour Beatty projects or similar large-scale operations.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
