Overall Summary
The role is that of a Tax Manager within the Financial Control function of the Close Brothers Asset Management division (“CBAM”). The team is primarily responsible for continual financial reporting, regulatory, taxation and statutory reporting.
This is a newly created role to manage all tax affairs for the division with the opportunity to develop and enhance existing skills, while being accountable within the function to ensure tax compliance and optimisation.
The role holder will have responsibility for the preparation of taxes for the division along with ensuring our structure and processes drive the correct tax position. Additionally, it will be the responsibility of this role holder to ensure all updates to tax legislation are understood and considered on behalf of CBAM along with advising the business on any new initiatives and the tax implications of such.
As well as preparing the relevant submissions, the role requires keeping up to date with technical tax requirements and forthcoming changes and implementing changes to processes and procedures as required.

Responsibilities
VAT
- Prepare the CBAM VAT returns for the UK entities and ensure returns are MTD (Making Tax Digital) compliant
- Presentation of the VAT returns to the Finance Leadership team to seek approval for submission
- Prepare VAT Accrual, Suspense and B/S Reconciliations calculations where required
- Conduct research to respond to all VAT related queries from internal or external stakeholders on a timely basis and in a practical and commercial way e.g. Tax advisory to business on a new product or queries from HMRC
- Liaison with the wider Finance team to ensure processes are correct for appropriate recognition of VAT (e.g. reverse charge invoices, correct VAT coding of sales & purchase invoices etc.)
- Ensuring that payments are made accurately and on time to HMRC
- Support the wider business functions with VAT support and guidance
- Preparation of month end corporation tax accruals
- Balance sheet reconciliations
- Collation of tax computations and returns in a timely and accurate manner, providing oversight to the Finance Leadership team on significant variances or balances
- Liaison with external third party on preparation of returns and supply of required information
- Ensuring that tax computations and returns are filed with HMRC, in the correct format, accurate and on a timely basis
- Review of monthly / quarterly deferred taxation position and monthly balance sheet reconciliations
- Ensure that adequate controls are in place across the wider business in relation to taxes including those required by the Senior Accounting Officer regulations
- Maintain documentation and RCSA appropriately
- Preparation of the annual Senior Accounting Officer pack and presentation to the Senior Finance Leadership Team for review and approval
- Provide ongoing support to the business including delivering advice & guidance, particularly on new initiatives, revenue streams etc. and the tax implications
- Act as the point of contact for the business with HMRC across all aspects of tax
- Involvement in ad-hoc projects to provide taxation input
- Implementing a continuous improvement ethic especially utilising technology and latest legislation to ensure accurate and efficient working
- Advise on the accounting side of all taxation including VAT
- Conduct research in order to respond to Tax related queries from internal or external stakeholders on a timely basis and in a practical and commercial way e.g. Tax advisory to business on a new product or queries from HMRC.
- Provide support to the wider Finance function including preparation of detailed taxation calculations, completion of tax forms and journals
- Ensure that all Governance and Compliance requirements are adhered to and all reporting and reviewing activities required by the Regulatory Bodies are carried out to the standards required
- Any other duties as directed by the management team, including ad-hoc requirements or changes as a result of updated relevant legislation
- Professional qualification in accounting / tax e.g. ACA, CA, ACCA, CTA, ATT
- Proven experience within a Tax function in practice or industry (ideally financial services sector)
- Experience in Direct and Indirect Taxes
- Previous experience in dealing with HMRC
- Advanced Excel skills
- Good commercial awareness; keeps up to date on knowledge and compliance with all regulatory tax requirements including changes in tax law in practice and the potential impact on the business
- Excellent attention to detail
- Team player
- Professional qualification in tax e.g. ATT or CTA
- Experience in software tools such as SAP, Workday, Oracle NetSuite etc.
