As a Systems Engineer you will be supporting development and management of products throughout their lifecycles, including analysis, verification and validation of product compliance. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to analyse stakeholder requirements and develop into structured requirements. You will be a focal point to ensure clear and comprehensive communication of technical requirements for products are understood throughout product lifecycles and help to continuously improve processes and procedures to support systems engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Working with a multidisciplinary design team to:
- Develop and manage structured requirements.
- Develop and manage methodology and strategy for verification/testing.
- Produce technical descriptions of system processes and operation to support new business activities and bids.
- Hold and support reviews at appropriate stages to ensure compliance and adherence to agreed requirements.
- Identification of issues and collaboration with team to develop solutions for automated process equipment.
- Engagement with project management team to support project governance and align technical expectations.
- Lead and develop activities in support of risk reduction and product improvement including but not limited to:
- New processes and technology testing (testing, monitoring and evaluating new mechanical, electrical and chemical equipment).
- Mathematical design and modelling.
- Concept design through use of models and diagrams.
- Root-cause analysis.
- Development of preventive measures to improve continuous performance.
- Discussion and evaluation of systems failures with key stakeholders including staff, suppliers and customers.
- Identification of potential issues and integration of proposed solutions.
- Continuous improvement of business processes verified through use of analytical data.
- Contribution to product risk management process.
- Identification of new technology and process plant opportunities.
- Support the project team to enable accurate planning, including providing detail of work packages, breakdown of tasks and estimates of the scale of the work required to complete product lifecycle stages.
- Be a technical focal point to facilitate clear and comprehensive communication between the technical team and any other stakeholders both internal and external to the company.
- Support the governance of the design and development activities ensuring adequate review processes are undertaken.
- Support analysis of customer specifications for development into actionable requirements.
- Support and contribution to the output of compliance matrices for support of new business activities.
- Support and creation of test cases and engineering test specifications for verification of requirements.
- Review and approve drawings, specifications, standards and other company documents.
- Ensure company processes and procedures are followed, including initiating/undertaking where appropriate:
- Safety assessments.
- Risk assessments.
- Root cause and failure mode analysis
- Design reviews.
- Design calculations.
- Reliability calculations.
- Test planning.
- Identify technical risk to the project teams and work on the appropriate strategies for risk management & mitigation. Support completion of compliance-based responses to competitive tenders.
- Work with the Project Team to ensure that activities undertaken align with the customer requirements and project deliverables, creating elements of and feeding into project plans for agreed scopes of work.
Essential
- Degree, HND or significant proven experience in an Engineering discipline
- Professional Engineering recognition i.e. Chartered Engineering Status/working towards it or significant demonstrable Engineering industry experience
- Expertise in creating, analysing, and working on engineered systems
- Experience in complex engineering equipment design and integration
- Flexibility, enthusiasm, self-motivation and ability to work well under own initiative
- Able to build long-term successful stakeholder partnerships, both internally and externally with customers and suppliers
- Confident user of Microsoft suite, able to manipulate and analyse data within Excel to intermediate standard
- Demonstrable engineering leadership, negotiation and influencing skills
- Decision-making / problem solving skills
- Strong presentation skills: confident speaker and professional presentation
- Masters Degree in an Engineering discipline
- Chartered Engineering Status
- Experience of designing to meet military requirements
- Experience of model based systems engineering (MBSE)
- Experience of requirements management software
- Knowledge of ISO9000 or a similar QA systems
- Experience within a lean manufacturing environment
