Role description:

Our Intern & Placement programme is designed to give you a hands-on insight into the work we do as a company and help to develop skills and knowledge within your chosen field. Supported by signposted training, the programme is based on Arcadis’ core values, giving you both technical training and support to help you develop both personally and professionally whilst with us. You will be exposed to real projects and clients and given a range of experiences to immerse yourself into over the course of your 10–12-week internship or 12 month placement.

Role accountabilities:

Arcadis have been at the forefront of geotechnical and ground engineering since our inception in the Netherlands as a land reclamation specialist in 1888.  More recently our geotechnical teams are involved in some of the most high-profile projects being delivered today both in the UK and globally.  These projects include High Speed 2, London Bridge Station, Lower Thames Crossing and Ontario Line underground improvements.  We work across a variety of sectors including Rail, Highways, Water and Energy. You will assist in the delivery of foundation, retaining wall, ground improvement and earthworks designs as well as undertaking desk studies, specifying and scoping intrusive ground investigations, producing interpretive reports, geotechnical designs and recommendations for a variety of geotechnical design solutions. Our team use innovative digital tools for producing accurate ground models and for analysis of geotechnical problems and design development.   

  • Accepted degrees: BEng, BSc, MEng or MSc in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology or related discipline  

Qualifications & Experience:

  • You will be working towards a degree in a relevant subject
  • You will demonstrate typical Arcadian skills including Resilience, Creativity, Analytical Thinking and being a Team Player
  • You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to use your technical knowledge to influence and consult stakeholders.
  • Willing to travel and stay away from home when required (where possible we embrace virtual working)
