Job Summary
We are looking for a Strategic International Alliances Lead who will deliver the Dstl strategic intent for International Relationship Collaboration (IRC) with long-standing and high-profile Science and Technology (S&T) alliances. You will turn Dstl strategy into operational reality by working effectively across Dstl Programme, Capability and Strategy functions, including routinely with the Executive.
You will have a vital reputational and ambassadorial role for Dstl on the international stage, and the post-holder will routinely interface with high-ranking officials within MOD and partner nations to realise the intent of Dstl’s international strategy.
You will focus on key partners including the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and its Science and Technology Organization (STO); Five Eyes (FVEYS) S&T (formally The Technical Cooperation Program (TTCP)) and the trilateral Australia, UK and US (AUKUS) defence pact.

We are looking for someone who has a strong knowledge, understanding and experience of: building and maintaining trusting and productive internal and external networks; Dstl’s strategic direction and knowledge of defence and of Dstl’s critical tasks; the breadth of Dstl’s S&T capabilities; and how Dstl works with stakeholders, suppliers, customers and partners including Mission Partner priorities.
You will be an experience strategic thinker, adept at multi-disciplinary working and able to analyse trends and insights and to act upon them, influence the direction of strategic partnerships.

Due to the classification of expected work, you will be required to be at either the Dstl Porton Down site or Dstl Portsdown West site.

- Act as the national expert on all matters pertaining to NATO, FVEYS and AUKUS S&T, responsible for oversight of collaborative S&T activities and ways of working across the Lab, into MOD and with external post-holders.
- Lead the generation of options and change for collaborative activities by bringing together different groups that are expected to have conflicting requirements and timescales, relying equally on influence and direct leadership approaches.
- Be accountable for the outcomes and benefits of Dstl’s engagement in multilateral alliances. Influence Dstl’s senior technical leaders and delivery functions to adopt unified reporting standards focused on benefits and cost-effectiveness, and deliver impact stories to senior (1-3* stakeholders in Dstl, MOD and wider Government.
