Located in the heart of beautiful Gloucestershire, Stroud District Council is seeking a passionate, values-driven leader to join our Strategic Leadership Team as the next Strategic Director of Resources. This is a pivotal role at a critical time, offering the opportunity to lead through Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) while ensuring the continued stability and excellence of our core services.
As Strategic Director of Resources, you will be at the centre of our organisation, responsible for leading the effective delivery of our business-as-usual operations while helping us prepare for the future. You'll bring a steady, supportive presence and strong interpersonal insight, helping to guide teams with clarity and care. Emotional intelligence and people-centred leadership will be vital here in nurturing our exemplary positive culture and keeping staff empowered, engaged and motivated.
Stroud is proud of its inclusive, community-oriented, and future-focused ethos. You will work closely with our Chief Executive, Elected Members and senior leadership team, playing a core role in shaping Stroud’s voice in the wider Gloucestershire landscape. Our collegiate relationships across the county are enviable, and we are united in our approach to LGR, presenting a joint submission from all seven authorities.
This role is ideal for an experienced local authority Director or an ambitious Assistant Director with demonstrable experience of being ready to take the next step. Professional background is less important than your ability to lead with integrity, empathy, and a commitment to our residents and staff. We are proud of our high levels of staff engagement and want to continue fostering an environment where people feel valued, supported and motivated. Experience within reorganisation is desirable, but not essential.
We offer flexible working arrangements, including hybrid working without mandated office days. However, visibility and presence will be important at such a pivotal time for local government, and we encourage candidates to consider how they will engage with our teams and community effectively.
Now is the perfect time to join Stroud District Council and make a lasting impact for the future of our organisation and workforce. For more information click Apply, please contact Duncan Collins (07586 705 475), Gary Evans (07809 195 593), or Rebecca Hopkin (07827 098 173).
Closing date: Friday 17th October
