Main duties of the job

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

  • Ensure a high standard of care for level 1 and level 2 post operative patients and safe transfer to critical care unit/other area.
  • Health and physical abilities sufficient for the post (If necessary, with reasonable adjustments with respect to the Equality Act/Disability Discrimination Act).
  • Work with Medical staff and multi-disciplinary team to ensure patient safety and treatment are carried out asper Trust policies.
  • Able to communicate effectively, in person and written, in all situations with wide range of people, Full use of IT systems.
  • Able to work unsupervised using own initiative and ability to prioritise workload in a challenging situation.
  • Maintain accurate records of observation, treatment and patient care.
  • Get involved with the Education team, support junior staff and get engaged with link roles in the unit.
  • Able to demonstrate behaviours that meet the Trust Values - Patient First, Working Together and Always Improving.
  • Qualified Nurse/ODP Adult or Dual registered Adult/Child.
  • Recovery/critical care unit experience is desirable but not essential.
  • Flexible to work patterns, which includes short shifts, early, lates, twilights, nights, weekends and bank holidays.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to changing environment.
  • Positive attitude and team player.

Person specification

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

  • Qualified Nurse (Degree/Diploma)
  • Registered nurse on appropriate part of the register
  • Knowledge of current issues within acute Health Service
  • Understanding of personal accountability
  • Knowledge of own role within the team
  • Provide evidence of teaching and supporting learners in practice in the role of practice supervisor
  • Awareness of evidence-based practice
  • Awareness of responsibilities for management of infection control
  • Evidence of on-going personal development
  • Able to use initiative

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of recent study
  • Previous experience/qualification in relevant specialty
  • Teaching experience
