Shift Operations Manager

Location: Birstall

Contract Type: Permanent & full time

Shift Pattern: 24/7 - 12-hour shifts | 4 week rotating days and nights

At Mars, we’re looking for a dedicated Shift Operations Manager to lead and develop a high-performing production team—including Operators, Area Leaders, and Shift Engineers—while delivering against safety, quality, and efficiency targets.

In this hands-on role, you’ll spend 50% of your time in your operational area and 50% focused on coaching, development, and continuous improvement activities. You'll be accountable for the smooth running of your lines, ensuring compliance with all safety and food quality standards, and driving a culture of ownership, problem-solving, and collaboration.

What You’ll Do

• Lead and coach your team to safely meet daily production plans
• Ensure consistent delivery of quality standards through routine checks and escalation of issues
• Develop and maintain a trained, competent, and engaged team
• Own and optimise labour planning and resource alignment with key stakeholders
• Coordinate maintenance activities and ensure effective handovers
• Drive root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to eliminate recurring losses
• Monitor key performance indicators and champion continuous improvement
  
  

What We’re Looking For

• Proven experience in shift or operational leadership, ideally in manufacturing or engineering
• Strong data-driven decision making and problem-solving skills
• Effective communicator with the ability to coach and influence across levels
• Working knowledge of safety and food quality standards (IOSH, HACCP, Food Hygiene Level 3)
• Computer literacy and confidence using operational systems
• Relevant qualifications (Level 4–5 or equivalent experience)
