Our Gas Division is a key area of the business, and we’re now looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to help us continue delivering high-quality, commercially successful projects.
SCOPE OF ROLE
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you’ll report to the Chief Quantity Surveyor and be responsible for overseeing the commercial and contractual aspects of a wide range of civil engineering and utility contracts. This role spans both pre- and post-contract responsibilities, from tendering through to contract management, valuation, and cost control. You will also lead the commercial administration of projects across frameworks and high-value standalone contracts.
HOW YOU`LL SUCCEED
Managing subcontractor relationships, including negotiating rates, reviewing packages, agreeing variations, and assessing applications
Leading on tender preparation and submission, including cost analysis, reviewing T&Cs, and evaluating subcontract responses
Overseeing contract administration, including monthly valuations, payment arrangements, variations control, and claim assessments
Producing detailed cost reporting and monthly CVRs, tracking cost vs value across all assigned contracts
Implementing commercial reporting systems** and maintaining accurate records throughout each project lifecycle
Identifying commercial and contractual risks** early and taking proactive measures to manage and mitigate them
Working collaboratively with operational teams to align commercial strategy and project delivery
Supporting the development and mentoring of junior commercial team members
What It Takes
Experience in civil engineering or utility contracts (gas sector preferable but not essential)
Proven ability to manage the full commercial lifecycle of multiple projects
Strong knowledge of contract forms (NEC, JCT, and bespoke)
Ability to lead and manage site-based commercial reporting systems
Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills
A collaborative, ‘hands-on’ approach to commercial leadership
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and cost control systems (e.g. Envision)
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with customer awareness and commercial insight
