A market-leading global flow control and instrumentation company that aims to help its customers manage the flow of liquids, gases and powders across many industries worldwide is seeking a Senior Quality Engineer. The successful candidate will be a key member of the quality department, facilitating growth and ensuring robust quality control and activities across the Rotork site in Manchester.

This role is a 12-month fixed term contract (FTC) based in Chadderton, Oldham.

Key Responsibilities

  • Active involvement in customer concerns/complaints/queries, driving root cause identification, corrective actions and preventative actions
  • Use problem-solving techniques to investigate external and internal issues – root cause, corrective and preventative actions
  • Create visual awareness of quality metrics and communication to the business
  • Work with the Quality Manager to develop key performance indicators (KPIs) to underpin objectives
  • Drive activities to meet objectives and communicate and engage effectively to the business
  • Devise methodologies for improving process inspection and verification
  • Work with the operations team to improve inspection and verification through the use of control plans, visual standard operating procedures (SOPs), poke yoke, visual standards, quality alerts, gauges and calibration adherence
  • Develop and execute a process audit plan. Devise process audit format and plan to engage workforce and identify non-conformities
  • Identify, track and reduce costs associated with scrap, defects, returns, complaints and non-value added activities through the implementation of structured methodologies for establishing ‘cost of quality’
  • Create and implement quality control plans with the assistance of all relevant team members
  • Internal audit: review the business to ensure adherence to departmental methodologies, processes and procedures
  • Ensure timely management of internal and external system and product non-conformities
  • Conduct and manage product/process and system audits
  • Support and facilitate continuous improvement activities within the site, working cross-functionally with other departments
  • Develop and implement significant improvements in department-wide processes, procedures and systems
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) projects as required, working closely with other departments to ensure successful introduction into production.

Qualifications And Technical Knowledge

  • Minimum of five years’ relevant quality experience (with a degree)or ten years’ relevant quality experience without a degree
  • Experience within a customer- facing environment, with knowledge of non-conformance report management and utilisation of a wide range of quality tools
  • An understanding of various quality tools and methodologies, ie production part approval process (PPAP), corrective and preventive action (CAPA) methodology, 8D problem-solving, 5 Why’s, SPC, Six Sigma (DMAIC), lean analysis, Pareto charts and statistical data
  • An understanding of NDT and chemical and physical processing, as well as computer numerical control machining and coordinate measuring machine inspection
  • Experience working in a prescriptive working environment, such as oil & gas, aerospace, automotive, nuclear, project or infrastructure
  • Experience utilising Lean Six Sigma techniques and methodology to improve operational performance
  • Experience operating material requirements planning (MRP)/enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems
  • Experience supporting NPI projects.
