The opportunity:

Zurich Engineering are a market leading Inspection, testing and certification body under UKAS 17020 accreditation in the UK and an approved body for certify products, processes and services under UKAS 17065 / 17020 accreditation for activities in accordance with UKCA requirements under the Pressure Equipment (Safety) Regulations (PESR).

We have over 600 engineer surveyors forming 35 teams nationwide completing thorough examinations of pressure systems, lifts and lifting equipment, electrical installations and plant, local exhaust ventilation and other work equipment.

We have an exciting vacancy for a Senior Engineer due to retirement in our pressure certification area, for an experienced but ambitious mechanical engineer. Ideally, we are looking for someone with a background in the design and fabrication of pressure vessels, heat exchangers, boiler, pipework or similar pressure equipment, with the ability to apply and reference quality and design standards. A good knowledge of national Standards (PD5500, ASME Viii, BSEN 13445 etc.) is essential and knowledge of NDT and welding techniques and procedures is desirable.

What are we looking for?

Reporting directly to the Principal Engineer (pressure systems) and working in a team of 11 other Senior Engineers, project managers and technicians, duties will include;

  • Providing technical support and mentoring to the small team of certification services engineers.
  • Providing technical support to the inspection services engineer surveyors within your area of expertise.
  • Carry out design reviews, assessments and audits of pressure equipment and manage the project file.
  • Act as the final decision maker to various certification projects within area of expertise.
  • Support the business development team with customer relationships and enquiries within area of expertise.
  • Support the Principal Engineer – in carrying out quality and competence audits of the Engineer Surveyor workforce within discipline.
  • Support the technical training and development of staff.
  • Help to develop and maintain technical processes and procedures, technical libraries, guidance documents etc.
  • Support the compliance team with H&S and UKAS requirements – including Technical / Deputy Manager for PESR activities.

What are we looking for?

  • Mechanical design engineering background for pressurised equipment or similar - essential.
  • Experience of working for a manufacturer / fabricator of pressure equipment is an advantage.
  • Thorough knowledge of new construction and in service Pressure Equipment products is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation e.g. Pressure Equipment Safety Regulations is an advantage.
  • Experience of working in a manufacturing / engineering environment.
  • Project management experience is an advantage.
  • A Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (expectance to work towards Chartered status which will be supported)
  • HNC/HND/Degree in an appropriate discipline - bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • A working knowledge of British Standards and legislation applicable to relevant design and manufacturing of pressure or pressure related equipment.
  • Understanding of welding techniques and qualification standards, including EN/ISO, ASME & AWS.
  • An understanding of material science / engineering.
