This unique role is an opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer to assure all electrical activity, provide electrical technical guidance, ensure electrical statutory compliance, and enable carbon reduction initiatives across multiple flood & coastal risk management and Water, Land & Biodiversity assets. The successful candidate will work very closely with numerous construction and design partners acting as the knowledgeable person for the client. You will be a key person within the EA’s national network of senior engineers and work in partnership with the national electrical assurance and safety initiatives.
You will provide design/technical advice ensuring compliance with electrical statutory legislation for British and European standards, and the EA’s codes of practices, procedures, and related guidance.
You will assure the technical capability and competence of staff, identifying areas of technical development for the EA. You will help to plan and deliver crucial asset investments, including flood protection to homes, businesses and the environment, which will have an increasingly important role as we face the challenge of global climate change. Following our ISO55001 Asset Management accreditation, you will be working to develop a world class asset management organisation.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be asked to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This will attract an additional payment and full training will be available to support you with your incident role.
The team
You will work in the MEICA Operations teams within the Local Operations department. The Team covers a wide range of technical specialisms known as MEICA (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation), responsible for the technical assurance of associated MEICA projects and asset maintenance delivered through both internal & contracted maintenance organisations. You provide technical support to Electrical staff within your team. There are 3 positions available: South West, South England & one national.
Experience/skills Required
Salary £50,409 p.a. (plus £9,750 p.a. for a Chartered MEICA engineer registered with the an appropriate institution).
We offer a great benefits package (see candidate pack), an impressive career average pension scheme and 27 days holiday (increasing with period of service), plus bank holidays, with flexitime working available.
You’ll have a designated EA Office base location selected nearest to your home address, but as the team cover a large area the working location is flexible and home working arrangements can be negotiated.
Candidates may become eligible for the Lease Car Scheme, dependant of quantity of travel required.

Experience/skills Required
- Comprehensive knowledge of Electrical statutory legislation, British and European standards
- Demonstrated experience operating as a Subject Matter Expert in Electrical Engineering and providing electrical technical advice
- Experience in providing assurance of complex electrical works and electrical design to drive resilience, reliability, innovation, efficiency, safety, quality, carbon efficiency, and maintainability
- Experience in supervising and testing electrical and instrumentation installations including site work.
- Experience leading safety/technical investigations, identifying/disseminating learning to bring about improvements in electrical and behavioural safety
- Ability to influence and persuade others combined with strong technical leadership
- Knowledge of Construction (Design & Management) Regulations (CDM2015), Health, Safety & Welfare (HS&W) Regulations, Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Asset Management/computerised maintenance management systems.
- A professionally recognised electrical engineer holding Chartered status with a professional body e.g. IET
