Senior Design Manager – Data Centre Delivery

Darford initially before going onsite in Oxfordshire

Mission-critical project | Cutting-edge infrastructure

Are you ready to take the lead on one of the UK's most exciting, high-specification data centre construction projects?

At Laing O'Rourke, we're seeking a Senior Design Manager with the vision, experience and leadership to drive design excellence on a major live site. This is your chance to be part of a fast-paced, technically complex programme that plays a critical role in the nation's digital infrastructure.

Why This Role Matters

You'll be the central force shaping and steering the design journey — from early coordination through to construction and handover. Working alongside specialist consultants, our in-house engineering and digital teams, and client stakeholders, you'll ensure design risk is minimised, value is maximised, and innovation is always front of mind.

What You'll Do

  • Lead design delivery across all project stages for a high-performance data centre
  • Translate client needs into coordinated, buildable and compliant design solutions
  • Manage external design partners, challenge assumptions, and drive value engineering
  • Chair design reviews and lead the change control process with confidence
  • Support construction with technical assurance and resolution of design queries
  • Embed safety, sustainability and digital integration into every decision

What You'll Bring

  • 10+ years' experience in design or technical management on complex projects
  • A degree in Architecture (chartered status desirable)
  • Strong working knowledge of multidisciplinary design processes, risk management and compliance
  • The ability to influence, coordinate and communicate at a senior level
  • A collaborative mindset and a passion for driving high-performance outcomes

Inclusion And Wellbeing

We believe diverse teams drive better outcomes. That's why we're committed to building an inclusive workplace where everyone feels they belong. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.
